ok guys i have a 95 gt. the guy i bought it from had the 2000 chrome cobra r wheels on it. love the look. he has michelin pilot sports on it. front are 265/35/18. rear are 285/35/18. my question is i know on the front i can go up to a 275/35/18 without any worries. but how wide can i go on back without having to adjust anything. i was looking at either 295/35/18 or 305/35/18. the car is a nice summer cruise car and once the motor is back together its going to be driven only on summer car cruise nights or weekends. so tires will last me a long time and im not to worried about drag strips or racing. so any input will be appreciated. thanks guys.

I wouldn't recommend anything wider than 295 especially on a 9" rim. Technically that's pushing it as is...

ok cool. thanks alot. i appreciate it. i want to replace the michelins. i recommend anyone having them or wantng them to junk them cause those tires suck and no matter how hot the ground is i never get any traction what so ever with them. any tire brands u would recommend? i was looking at bfgoodrich right now.

you dont need to start making changes until you throw a 315 or 335 tire on it.

but with a 9" rim, i wouldn't go bigger than a 275. just me though, this debate can go on for ages on what tire size you can run on a certain rim width. and I absolutely love my bfg kdw2s!

BFGoodrich makes a lot of great tires. KDWs are a huge favorite here as well as the DRs. I'm currently running both and have no complaints so far.

Thanks yeha i was looking at those bfg's. my buddy had a 96 stang and thats all he ran and they hooked up good for him. i think im going to step up to a 295 and then call it quits from there. so would a 275 work on the front or stick to a 265?

did u mean a 18x9? if ur not sure on the size/width of the wheel, the size of them should be stamped somewhere on the inside of the wheel, mine is anyway

im saying on a 9" wide rim, i would not run anything bigger than a 275, regardless of front or back. I run a 245 bfg kdw2 on a 9" rim and it works fine although I would feel safer with a 255 or 265.

for the front rim, if you decide to go with the KDW2, id run a 265 (KDW2s are no longer made in 255/18s i dont think).

i was looking at going with a 275/35/18 on the front and 295/35/18 on the rear with the bfgs kdws. like i said i have the rears off and will be cleaning them tomorrow or wednesday. depends on how i feel after i get tat work done. once i get them cleaned up ill look for the rim size. i think its either 18x9 or 18x10. i know they look wide as hell on the car when its sitting. right now it has pilot sports 265/35/18 on front and 285/35/18 on rears.

295's would fit fine. To fit my 315's I just had to do a little tapping in the rear wheel wells, but that's about it. 295's on 18's would fill your wheel wells nicely.

A rule of thumb if over 275's (safety) a 10" inch rim...

you could go for a 285 on a 9" rim and thats PUSHING it. 295 will be to big unles you get a brand like Nitto....They tend to be a bit generous on the tire specs (they run smaller than advertised)

I'll be looking into them in the future. as for now i have to finish installing my cobra front and rear bumper and cobra r hood and saleen spoiler. then it goes to a buddy's shop to get the heads reworked new gaskets arp studs oil catch can and some other stuff. then it goes to the exhaust shop to get a custom side pipe ran with borla stingers. once thats all done ill save money for tires. thanks for all your guys input. i appreciate it.

Correct me if i am wrong but i thought the 2000 Cobra R came with 18x9.5 " rims . I am almost positive they did. Now if you have real Cobra R rims then that should be the size they are and i would say a 285 or a 295 rear tire.

yep. im actually cleaning the rims with chrome polish and polish cloth. they were oxidized and had brake dust melted on. i have them looking brand new now and i can actually see the part bumber and rim size. you are correct it is 18x9.5 and yes they are the chrome 2000 cobra r rims. and i had 285 now and i think im going to put 275 on the front and 295 on the rear. thanks guys.
