ok i'm really on the edge of buying 2 18x9 (front) and 2 18x10 (rear) Black chrome Saleen rims and my question comes to this... will a 335/30/18 rear tire fit on the back of the 18x10 rim or no?

my mustang is a mixture of several different themes and i've had my cobra r's for too long, and i'm in need of serious change. I want to go black chrome rim and i think the saleen rims will look best right now...

Technically its too wide but there's been at least one or two guys on here that have squeezed them on there.

You can do it. Im running 295/3518's on a 10" wheel, and they fit perfect. I cant imagine a 335 would look bad tho.

my issue is i really want a 335 MT since my 305 is not enough meat and since i'm switching rims i figure it's best to upgrade the tires and get some more traction...

I think the MT run a little smaller for some reason but question still stays, before i sink like 600+ bucks on rear tires. Is 335 meat gonna fit lol

Ya, the 335 will fit. I have personally seen a 98 Cobra with 335 in back. he had to space out the wheel tho, and no quad shock.

305 really is enough, just because you're running a wider tire does NOT mean you're getting more traction, especially if the tire is the wrong size for the wheel, which it would be in this case...

besides, increasing the diameter of the tire does more for traction than increasing the width.

and i understand all of that, but it looks like pure sex from the rear of the car... i might just toss the bit and go to a pair of welds for the track and use the saleens and 305's for the street..

Well, there ya go!!! I saw that car I was talking about yesterday. he modified his axle with 9" axle tubes, cut to length so they put the tire farther out of the fender, and hes running a Griggs torque arm and panhard bar. he honestly is running 335's out back.

or split the difference and get 315s!

(although the difference from 305s to 315s isnt that huge)

No, not really. the diff is only about 10mm, depending on the tire Mfr.

No. Increasing the width does more for traction than increasing the diameter. Increasing the width, gives you a better scrub radius.
