Is that a Tri-Ax shifter? I'm digging the angle of that handle. My Hurst leaves a little to be desired - I'm thinking about picking up a new handle for it.

yep. with the pool ball knob it feels just right.

if you know someone that can weld you can make a small cut in your handle just enough to allow you to bend it into place and then weld it back together solid.

I don't have any pics of it but it was done to my hurst shifter by the guy prior to me. He just made a small pie cut on the back so that it would pull back from the dash a bit and then welded it back together.

Right on, I'll look in to this once I have the car back.

started on my first 3d printing project. a ring to solve 2 problems. the ugly gap caused by the momo hub and the stock column surround and ALSO hold the contact for the button. the idea is it'll bolt to the column itself with those three holes in the casting and the hub will hide those bolts.

Alignment done. The top is my jackstand string job and the bottom uses fancy laserbeams at a local performance shop. Car feels a lot better now.

aftermarket steering wheel hub shroud prototype V1. getting a feel for exactly where everything needs to be. If you're wondering what that silver thing is by the tape that is the horn contact assembly i fabricobbled. After i get a functional shroud i'll build that piece into it, too.

What i'm thinking is this could be an all in one "hide the gap and connect the horn" solution.

Seems like a good idea. I'm kind of wanting to ditch the airbags in my car and go aftermarket steering wheel, but I haven't seen anything that looks decent without a huge gap. Mind you I haven't researched much, but from casual looking, there certainly appears to be a need.

Its just a prototype so its really rough so it would print fast but i'm thinking i might be able to sell these things once they get cleaned up. I'm going to build a little snap in piece that has a place for the old school horn contact. Also now that i have the inner dimensions correct I plan on making the exterior transition from that circle to the rounded corner square shape of the column covers. The goal is OEM++

Matching the profile of the column would make it look much better - I like that idea. Pretty amazing what you can do with those now.

somebody is addicted. Just curious, I have been surprised to that 3d printers seem to struggle with making a perfect circle as I can normally see the multiple straight lines that make up the curve. Is it just a resolution thing that it takes longer to make a perfect arc or is just hard to melt the filament in a perfect arc?

i got it going really fast so that might be why the circle isn't quite a circle. if i didn't these prototypes would take like 6 hrs a piece lol

and yeah im totally hooked. this is awesome.

You could slow it down for final pieces if that would improve "quality".

yeah. the final part has to be ABS anyhow to withstand car interior temps in the summer so i'm probably going to do that today. Gotta move the printer out to the garage, tho, cause ABS makes toxic fumes.

I made this one last night and its almost there, just needed a couple tweaks to get the transitions more symetrical

planning on making this in ABS today.

also started tinkering with a switchplate idea for the center console

well dang i ordered the wrong abs filament. guess i'm making another pla prototype while i wait on the abs. got some transparent filament on the way as well.
this is in the oven now...

oh and that reverse nut looking thing is a modular plug for the horn contact so i don't have to make a whole new shroud while i get the dimensions all dialed in

made my sidepipe covers today. I'm working on something to hide the pinch welds and tie these into the car.

the side pipes needed a little help with the symetry
