The size of the outside diameter of the tire is what fills the wheel well. The aspect ratio of the tire size is what determines the outside diameter. The sidewall size is a percentage of the tread width. If you get a tire that has wider tread with the same aspect ratio, the outside diameter of the tire increases.

another problem with filling the wheel wells with a larger tire outside diameter is that it throws the speedometer off making it indicate lower speed than actual speed.

Got this car last week, had 18 inch Saleen 's, springs on order... The chrome goes with the red I think...

Man it looks good expect that 4x4 stance! Oh the horrors!!

Probably drives well over speed bumps though. And off road. And rock climbing.

Another thing about aspect ratios - it is important that your tire is within a reasonable range of sizes. A tire too wide scrubs the lip of the wheel well. A tire too narrow will cause the rim to be wider than the tire making it very easy to damage the rims. My first set of tires were too narrow for the rims and all four got damaged. Once I found the right size tires for my setup, I sent my rims out to be repaired. With my current tire sizes that I have been running I have found sizes that work for me.

I hated the 17inch factory tri bar wheels on my 94 gt. I got a killer deal on some 05 gt 18in rims. Wrapped them in 275/40r18 tires. My 94 has SR lowering springs without isolators. She is dirty and wet when I took this. Giggity

I am running 275/35-18 tires on 18” x 9” wide wheels on the front and 295/35-18 tires on 18” x 10” wheels on the rear. So far, no rubbing the wheel wells with approximately stock ride height and give me stock tire diameters so that my speedo is still accurate. The tires give me a great deal of traction in the curves. I found that any tire size narrower on these wheels will open me up to the chance of damaging the wheels again.

How's it ride without isolators? I have steeda sport springs and looking to get more drop in the rear. Fronts look good but the rear looks too high. Just don't have additional NVH.
