1995 new wheels and tires

Hi everybody.


The work on my 1995 is really moving forward and now it's time to get some better wheels!
The car is only for summer driving, shows, and small family trips. It's got stock springs (might be cut from a former owner – not sure) and new Koni STR.T shocks. The car also has new Gabriel OEM quad shocks.
See the picture as the car sits right now with the original Ford Pony wheels (17x8 with 225/55/17 tires).


I've only owned the car since September last year, and I'm now on my fourth set of wheels. See the old thread if you want:

That's why I might need a few more confirmation points than the average guy.


I'm looking to buy a set of Aodhan wheels with this setup:

• Front: 18x9.5 ET35 – Tires: 255/35R18 or 245/40R18 – maybe ET22
• Rear: 18x10.5 ET22 – Tires: 275/35R18

Should I go with an 8.5" front wheel instead to avoid rubbing, and which offset is best for clearance?


Also, I’m located in Europe, so availability is something I need to consider.
Clearance on full steering lock and over bumps is also important – I’d like to avoid rubbing or the need for fender rolling. And no spacers

This guy reports no rubbing but has a 4mm spacer in the rear. [The rear spacer is likely for look only as I had similar offset wheels and there were no clearance issues.]

Looks like he had to roll the fenders.
I’m starting to think ET22 might be pushing it—ET35 could be the safer choice.


Let’s hope some more people chime in with experience!

That is a very nice car. It looks a little lower than factory, just right in my opinion.

Wheels can make or break a car in my eyes. With a nice car like yours, if I were in your shoes, I would replace those headlights with OEM or Cobra headlights first (had to say it sorry ), jokes aside, I think the 16 inch factory wheels would fit nicely. 17 inch Cobra/Cobra R style wheels are also a safe bet, and easy to find. Bullitt style wheels would work too, but not the darker ones. The silver ones would fit nicely. They are also 17 inch wheels. The new edge Cobra (not the terminator) 5 spokes are also pretty sharp. They are 17 inch wheels as well. The wheels on your car currently are new edge GT wheels. Not factory for 1995.

If you want to go aftermarket, I personally love the old school ROH ZR6 wheels. It may need some hunting to find a set, but they will look great in my opinion.

I don’t suggest buying brand new wheels though. They are insanely expensive, and are not worth it at all.

Pair all that with a little spacer out back and you will be golden!

wheels are not what they use to be
even for the trucks the old modular rims for a 4x4 with micky mud slingers ballooned out
just wont work with the newer vehicles
the new wheels look ugly as hell

I've got great news for you – the headlights have already been changed. The picture is from early April, and this month I swapped out the cheap headlights that the former owner had for stock headlights. I totally agree with you.


As I mentioned in my first post, I have to avoid using spacers, but I’ll take a look at the suggestions you’ve written. Here in Denmark, Europe, there are hardly any used wheels available, so I’ll either have to buy new ones or wait and buy whatever used wheels come up.

That looks way better! EBay would probably be your best bet. I can totally understand the lack of used wheels in your area. Factory wheels would look best IMHO. Doesn’t have to be specifically your year OEM, but SN95 OEM in general. 94-04. Having some crazy aftermarket wheels that can fit massive tires on a mechanically and visually stock car just makes no sense, and depending on what wheels, are a MASSIVE waste of money. Something period correct, while costly, almost always fit nicely.

I have to agree with the others above, wheels have just gotten ridiculous. Too expensive, and too over the top. They just end up looking like what you would find in the bottom of a blender. They look like they are meant to cut up fruit, not look good.
