a quick idle video
So a town about an hour from holds drag races at the airport once a year , me and the kid decided to drag the car done there. I took a week of vacation leading up to the races , so I look the car over and teach him to drive a standard. Once he figured out to work the clutch and get the car move without stalling it to much , it was time to move on to shifting the car nice and and smooth. This all happened out at grandparents who live in the country on a farm. Figured it was time to take him to a highway and so he could get a feel for the car and what it would be like to race in it. This where things go kinda bad....lol. I climb behind the wheel side the clutch at about 1500 , run it up to about 6000 (wheel spin like crazy) , bang second ( more wheel spin ) , shift at roughly 6000 again , hit 3rd (finally get some traction after a bit more wheel spin) , bang 4th at 6000. Car is moving pretty good by now. Decided that was enough fun for me , pop the car in netural and it dies. Pull over to the side of the highway , car cranks but wont start. Have the father in law bring his trailer , load the car. Get back to their place unload it in his shop. Found a broken rotor in the dist. , replace that fires right up but no oil pressure. Didn't hear any knocking (thank god) , pull the dist. , find the oil pump drive not sitting center of the hole , grab a long screwdriver and able to move the shaft around. Found an arp one in a speed shop. Get it changed and oil pressure again.
Now the car is up running time to go racing. Must say I'm pretty proud of the kid from learning to a standard and making it go done the track in 4 days. He eventually had the car do a 15 second pass at 98 mph. Yes I know the car should et better. That will come when he gets more experience behind the wheel of it. Pretty sure I made his year so far , we got lined up next to each other and I broke out on my dail in driving my ls powered 4th gen camaro.
Took the boy racing yesterday. A car club rented the 1/8 mile strip about an hour from us. He was doing pretty good , got 3 time trials in went from a 12.81 off the the trailer to a 9.59 last run of time trials. So we dial in at a 10 flat. First round of elminations he wins by the other guy breaking out. Gets a by run , the car back fires and a pretty big cloud of black smokes rolls out from behind the car , just as he is about to shift into third. Car cranks but won't fire now. Can hear the fuel pump kick on with the key , with the coil wire off the coil can see the coil arc out to the bracket nice blue spark , When cranking can hear the car burble as it cranks over but won't fire. Not really sure to look to figure it out. Anyone have any ideas?
Check your timing
the only thing on the 5.o is timming if the distributor came loose
Distributor gear could have broke as well.

Gear is fine I pulled the distributor this morning. I think Mach is right , i think the distributor moved.
Is that a aftermarket performance distributor or MSD
Those seem to loosen up the most
My MSD billet dose lossen up once and a while I have to check it every now and then
When did you time it last or have someone else do it
Bolt could have been a little loose
I have a Mallory distributor with roller bearing on shat new in a box I need to try out
Its been sitting
I timed it Thursday night , guess I didn't get the hold down tight enough.
You would be surprised how many times iv seen loose distributor including mine
Then when I climb in my 4.6 cars I forget no distributor in it when it runs crappy
but it dose happen
