Update:
Got my valve cover gaskets (Amazon gaskets $10)
Oil housing gasket (felpro)
Pan gasket (felpro)
Ordered new timing cover gasket and crank seal (felpro)
I’ve bought some duplicolor engine paint, primer and clear.
I’m going to start shaving the valve covers tomorrow, disassemble the engine and prep it for paint.
Send cams off to get some love
And piece together anything else I may need. Also got some permatex assembly lube, anyone use that stuff? And I’m leaning towards some cheap Amazon head gaskets..
And I’ll most likely be reusing the stock head studs, if not I’ll get a set from modularheadshop. Overall I’m finally making progress on the old girl! I’ll post update pics tomorrow!

Head gaskets came in yesterday and the quality doesn’t seem to bad for $40. So far I’ve pieced together a gasket set for next to nothing. Also my valve cover filler neck was broken off so I’ve been working on plastic welding it back together. Once that’s done I’m going to begin smoothing out the valve covers painting them, and disassembling the engine and prepping it to paint then go back together

Anyone know how much paint it takes to spray these cars and door jams?

it depends on the paint and how much you can reduce it. When I did mine I got a gallon of color and was able to reduce it 3:1.

All the base coats I’ve used mixed 1:1 paint:reducer. If that’s the case for your paint, a gallon will be good.

What color are you spraying?

3 quarts might be good enough if you are smart with your work and don’t waste any paint. Might I suggest mixing only the amount of paint you need to do the job.

What’s your plan for disassembly, you taking doors and fenders off?

Will do! And I’m not 100% sure I want to yank the fenders and doors off but I’m still tossing that idea around, I do need to replace my passenger door though since the door skin is messed up in the corner and I don’t think it’s fixable..

Do you have a large enough compressor? And how about filter/water trap?
I don’t, but I have access to one. Good buddy of mine, he just painted his 98 v6 black with harbor freights $20 guns. Wasn’t a perfect job but for his first time and the guns he used it looks really good! Gives me the urge to spray mine myself now. Now I don’t plan on using those guns, I want to buy myself a good gun probably around $100-200 and shoot it with that

If you want to spend that kind of money on a gun and you want quality, get a devilbiss gun. I got a devilbiss gti pro lite and it is absolutely amazing. Look up “The Gunman” on you tube, he does spray gun reviews and is a really good painter. Watch his videos and learn his technique before you start.
