Okay I need some information. I was told when it comes to swapping in a pi engine in place of your npi engine that you need to change the oil pan from the 1996 engine over to the pi engine (1999) due to a sensor on the pan how true is this? The pi engine im using is a windsor and I plan on moving my coil packs and wires to the fire wall. So could I retain the pi timing cover as well rather than swapping mine over from my npi engine?

Does your car have the low oil level sensor? If so, do you want to keep it? If the answer is yes, then use the old oil pan. Otherwise, the new pan will be just fine.

What are you doing for an oil pump? If you plan to keep this engine together for any period of time, now is the time to get a good oil pump. I’ve had two engine failures because of oil pumps and it’s not fun.

If you are moving the coil packs, the only other thing you’d have to worry about is how the power steering reservoir is mounted. You could get the bracket from the pi engine and use it, or make something to mount the bottle. Other than that, it’ll be fine to use the new cover.

I’m not to sure on the sensor, how would I go about not using it just leave it disconnected?

and the engine has a relatively new oil pump in it I’m just going to clean it out real good and prime it.

and yeah I can get something together to hold up the ps resivoir

No more progress as of yet. But, I slapped new rod bearings that came with my rods and pistons in the engine, and I reused the main bearings that were in the engine already… I’ve been scratching my head about it all, and now I know the main bearings probably won’t give me any trouble, but I’ve decided to go back into it and replace the main bearings as well. Just for extra assurance

Good call, I was going to say with how complicated these OHC engines are... I would never skip new on parts like these when the engine is a part.

Update: I tore the engine back down to go back with stock pistons, and cams and stock compression. Reason being is a tune is out of my budget right this second and I need the car to daily to work etc for the time being. I finished the short block, went to put on the driver side head and came to find out the cam journals are really messed up, so I need a replacement head if anyone has one. I planned on getting the engine done and in the car by this weekend but now that won’t happen until I can get a head.

Also acquired this 95 gt from a buddy of mine who owed me a few bucks, I practically got it for next to nothing. I always loved the sbf platform and would love to keep it to build up but I’m not a fan of convertibles and I like money better! This thing definitely needs some love but she is for sale. Runs good, rebuilt auto trans, new alternator, water pump, ac and heater work. Needs some rims and tires as well as some interior work and body work. But if your in Texas and want to make the trip down south I’d be more than glad to part with it!

Woke up this morning and took the hour drive to source some heads from my nearest pull a part and found a pair of Romeo heads in really good condition. Engine appeared to be a reman, and someone had already did all the hard work so with an hour of my time I had both off and walked out with them both for $56 with core credit. Looking to have the engine assembled and in the car by next weekend!

Hell of a weekend. Finished rebuilding the new engine last night. Limped the car to my buddies, hood flew open and cracked my already cracked windshield. Front driver tire blew out. Finally got it to my buddies, and started pulling the engine out immediately, I have never removed one of these nor has my buddy, and we managed to yank the trans and engine out together within 2 hours!! Some of my wire pigtails are in rough shape and I never realized it.. so I’ll be cleaning everything and replacing the bad stuff. Overall successful couple of days!

Took the time to shave my valve covers, first time doing this and I’m happy with the result. Time consuming process for sure buy well worth the look! Still have one more to go. I sprayed it in a hurry so I got some runs, but I don’t think it’ll bother me enough to redo it

How can I delete that sensor and what’s the purpose exactly? Does a light come on when the oils low?
