Been a lurker around the forums here for awhile, decided that it was time to register and start a build thread of my own.
A co worker at the local Ford dealership were i work as a tech decided his wifes crashed 97 GT convertible was too much of a project to fix and too much cash decided to give me this car for free as it has sat for 5 years and he just couldnt get it together.

here is what it looked like right before i drove it home

Shortly after i got it home, i started stripping the fender off to inspect the damage ;

doesnt look to bad. small frame pull , and some sheet metal..

here are a few shots of the good side ;

So drove this puppy down to the ford dealer i work for, and had the body shop do the frame pull

body shop only charged me 250$ to get it straight. so once that was done, i went hunting for some sheet metal. found there wasnt anything at the local wreckers, and i would more than likely looking for a whole car to buy to get the parts i needed.. found this gem on craigslist

1996 v6 5spd coupe;

Paid 600$ for the entire car. and actually felt very bad tearing this car apart for body panels. it was a cherry little car, ran awesome, and only had 136k kms on it. but i knew what i had to do ...

got it all stripped down, and headed down to work to install the panels , only to find out some drug addicts jumped our locked fenced in compound and stole the sparkplugs and wires and battery out of the GT.. Got that shit sorted, and hung some sheet metal and doors. transfered all the power stuff into the non power door and hung it on the car ;

Got er registered and insured and drove it for a week. nice tight well running stock 4.6. My plans at this point was to just drive it for a month or two and figure out wether i wanted to attempt to paint it myself, or pay the body shop to do it .... then one saturday the lot kid backed into it. turns out his dad is the Sales manager, and the kid didnt have a license. thats were my luck turned. Ended up getting the bodyshop at work to paint the car for 900$ out of my pocket, and the other 2grand from the Sales manager.. So here is how she sits as of last week with some body work done, and some primering. they are using it as a "fill" in job, but im getting impatient and want to get on with the mods!

Picked up some maintance items for it, fresh oil and filter, fuel filter etc.

Car will need a fuel pump sooner than later as it is making the death whine.
plans for this will be some drop springs, some cobra r wheels, new top, and a new windshield.
Of course doing the exhaust and intake, and some basic stuff.
Can anyone recommend a x pipe and cat back setup?

well its painted. they only painted the white panels black, and the lr quarter panel were the wash kid hit it. with the car unmasked i see that there is quite a shine difference in the paint. looks like i am going to have to get the other panels that werent painted, wet sanded and buffed .

well little update, body shop has to respray the hood as when they were peeling the tape around the hood vents, the apprentice didnt cut the tape with a razor blade first. resulting in a huge piece of clear coat ripping off the hood .. on a positive note, i picked up a complete convertible top in black today off a 99 for 350$ including everything. top was just about 2 years old before the car it was on threw a rod (3.8). i was just in the right place at the right time. here is a few pics of the top i picked up;

thanks 96blak54. ya my luck was unreal finding that complete top. the saddle top currently on the stang is just destroyed. the tension cables were pulled out of the seams, and the rear window leaked badly. pretty stoked to get it back from the body shop and start putting some of the goodies on it

also got this in the mail i got off ebay. i know its not bbk or some other brand name, but the quality of the pipes are pretty decent, the clamps and silcone couplers are real nice. alot nicer than other ebay CAI i have purchased before.

Folks here arnt really focused on calling out your build choices. If its what you like, roll with it! We'll like it too!

Im still sporting the stock intake tube!! Used available parts are my preference over spending money.

Didnt think anyone would call out my build choice, i just wanted to mention that the cheap ebay intake system, was actually a very nice system. and ya, if i can buy used i definitley do aswell. most of my daily f150 is kept on the road from pick and pull parts. Everything i have found for the mustang so far has been used except the tires and the intake. the donor car i bought has done me well, and still have some extra goodies packed up incase.

Ebayed a few more goodies for the car today,
ordered these as i need the foglights as they were both broken from the accident it was in, figured it was a good deal. little unsure how these 1 piece lights will look, or fit. but guess i will find out .

Looking around also for lowering springs and needed new struts. prices for good stuff shipped to canada was way out of my budget. so i ebay'd a set of these. its suppose to drop a coupe 1.5" and a vert 1.8" . I have never heard of Stagg struts or shocks before, but i figure what the hell. see how they are;

Wet sanded 1500 and 2500, 3 stages of 3M polish, and the old paint looks like the fresh stuff. pretty proud of the polish job considering it was my first time .

installed the ebay cold air intake today. when i popped the hood i found a surprise . The body shop neglected to remove the plastic film they used to cover the engine compartment and found bits of it wrapped around the alternator pulley and completely covered the hot air intake i rigged up. i only drove it home last night, and back to work today before i made the discovery. i did notice it wasnt as peppy as it was before. haha

Pics of some new stuff that i got off amazon..
a 9007 bi-xenenon 6000k hid kit , and a 893 8000k hid kit. have the same exact setup in my 2000 f150 and they have worked without a flaw for over a year and a half. cheap but decent.
Also picked up the Lisle headlight aimer tool. those 4mms adjusters are a pain in butt. should be a good tool to have at work aswell.

Great build! Good luck with the one piece headlight installation - I finally gave up and ordered a two piece set.
