Simply locking the lashers and shimming them in equates to a stage 1 cam when using pi cams.

Haven't not worked on a modular before, not even sure how to begin doing something like that, lol.
What are you wanting from a cam? Loping idle? A few more hp?

Not bashing your post talltim or choice of product, but why invest into a noticeable increase when the pi cam,.... set up correctly, can perform very well. So well....the valve timing events are really close to a comp264.
Dont spend coin on 15-25rwhp gain if you dont understand camshaft properties. The $500 isnt worth it later in life. Dont accept hype from others about cams claims on an otherwise stock compression engine. Learn the benefits of aftermarket camshafts before you invest. Unlock the potential of your purchases now!

After seeing the shape of the timing components on my 2v, I'm going to just run with what's in it and build another 2v how I want it. Just need to find a decent low mileage 2v to play with..
Thats a great idea! Modulars hold up to some serious abuse, so dont be affraid of buying one with high milage and runs good. Ive done some straight up junkyard builds that surprise.
