302 to 351 GT 40 intake woes.

I have looked but have not found any info on this. If there a discussion please point me in the right direction.
First a little background. Finally got my Holley Terminator X installed last year. Noticed the smell of fuel sometimes when it was driven. Turns out I had a leaking fuel injector. Installed new o-rings on all eight and after a couple of almost starts (sputter and stalls) it make a very not good sound and stopped rotating.
I have a 351w project engine that I am thinking now is a good time to use it, but it needs to be finished.
Here is my dilemma. I know most of what can and cannot be swapped between the two engines. As I stated I have a Holley Terminator X finally installed and wired up and I have a tubular GT 40 upper and lower on the 302. Understanding that it would need to be retuned I would like to use the GT 40 on the 351. Biggest problem, a used lower is just as expensive as buying a new Edelbrock or Trick Flow.
I want to know people’s thoughts on either using lower intake to head spacers, trying to (but unable so far) to find an adapter to go from the tubular GT 40 to a non-GT 40 lower or Frankenstein a square bore dual plane that I already have with elbows and spacers etc. to make it all work.

Thanks in advance. Interested in your thoughts.

Problem with sourcing a 351 GT40 lower is they were very limited. Lightning and Ford performance was the only way to get them. Now the prices for them are redic.
Now I do know some marine based 351s came with a cast iron gt40 lower but with the added weight of the 351 the last thing you want is more weight on the front end. Your better off selling the upper and going with an aftermarket intake. You'll get good money for the upper.

I contemplated with this battle so much when I was deciding to do the 351. And I eventually did get my hands on a 351 lower. Then I was gonna send it out to TMoss and have him port it. But in the end, I decide just to go with a different intake altogether. I guess you have to ask yourself the question is what is your main goal and intent with using the lightning lower? At this point building something that looks stock is somewhat a waste of time just due to the lack of performance gain out of it. You’re already limited with the 351 market as it is. When you look at the 351 lower intake compared with the AFR head, I don’t think it’s really that close. They’re available on eBay, but they’re expensive and that’s just the reality of the whole deal. And yes, you can get the cast iron one for a lot less money, but it is heavy. In the end if you’re just trying to achieve the look, and then I would suggest you biting the bullet for the aluminum intake or get the cast one and find a way to lose weight if it becomes that big of a deal for you.

im looking for the 5.0 tubular top and lower
not for me but some one else
It’s getting it shipped in a couple of days. Once it’s back to its original home I’ll be able to open it up and see what went wrong. I’ll post some pictures here tomorrow, too dark in the garage right now so you can see the tubular set up.

Has anyone ever attempted to use a square bore 4bbl intake with a 90 degree elbow, maybe a carb spacer to get the correct height? Maybe a tb spacer to get it lined up to the cai ? In my mind it would essentially be the same, in theory, as using an aftermarket Trick Flow or Edelbrock. I could be out in left field on this.

I am open to all options. The car is so far from being stock, under the hood looks are not an issue (except at a cruise night). My true goal is to make it a sleeper.

The thought being 1. Everyone thinks 5.0 with 215HP from the factory. Even with mods, 300 - 350HP? 2. No one is expecting a 351 bored 0.40 over and a stroker kit. Based on my calculations it comes out to about 395 CI @ 9 or 10:1 comp ratio. Haven’t even spec’d out the cam yet. Oh the fun to be had all while looking like a stock 5.0.

When I purchased the GT 40 I sand blasted the upper and lower and painted the both. The flaking on the top is from the heat. It also had the plenum spacer, 1” I think?
