I am replacing the engine in my 94 Cobra. Question is should I go to a 351w and skip a 302 based stroker?
How much of a pain is it? Is it worth it?

It will bolt right in...

but its alot easier to punch out and stroke the 302...

the 351 (supposing you pulled it out of an old car) would require an EFI swap too... unless you found a newer one with the EFI out of a truck or something... then you'd have to fuck around with the computer and wiring...

If I was you I'd stick with the 302...

a nice 302 based stroker would be mean as hell. 331 or 347 would be good. just make sure you top it off with some bad ass heads like AFRs and a decent intake. this way you dont have to change out stuff, the same block that is coming out of your car is going in... a ton easier than trying to swap everything over to the 351.

I HAVE a 331 stroker....believe me...If I had to do it over again, It'd be a 351 based motor.

*Stronger Blocks

*More Cubes RIGHT OF THE BAT than any 302 Based Stroker

*The info on how to do it is readily available

Just read here.

It may look intimidating but after buying a stroker kit and paying for machine and assembly into my stock block, i was already in close to 4 grand...Think about that for a bit. Do a BUDGET 393 Stroker...buy a 393 crank and use your factory rods and pistons from your 302. BAM! 393! Whats not to love? Gimme 3,900 bucks and I'll sell you my 331 longblock and I'LL go with a 351...j/k

Thanks for the input. From reading the links, it looks like I would have some significant expenses and work to make the swap.
I already have a hell of a time getting the #8 plug out. If the 351 is 2.5" wider, looks like it would be even worse.
It would be nice to find some one who has put a 351w in a 1994 Cobra. Seems like the magazine articles are all Fox body swaps.

The clearances are all going to be pretty much the same under the hood between a fox and sn95. Don't let that fool ya. With full lengths, plug swaps are a cake walk for me.

I'm still pondering a Dart 9.5 deck 427 or a Dart 8.2 deck 364... I really want the 427 but it will cause alot of complications because I'm going turbo....
