Hey All, I am curious about and have some question about 331 Stroker motors... I did a search and did find some basic info but was wondering if I could get pointed to a thread to answer my questions, or have them answered here. What I have now is a 306, with GT40 Iron heads, Cobra Upper and lowers and an e-cam.. If I was to purchase a 331 stroker kit, would my heads and intakes support the this upgrade?, I plan on upgrading my injectors, MAF, TB as well... What size injectors would I need for this setup? Should I upgrade my TB as well?. Should I get a different Cam? Should I upgrade my Fuel Pump? This will be a budget build as I am not made of money LOL!.. So I would like to use as many of my current parts possible. Thanks in advance. Don
If it were me and everyone I have talked to a known says just start off with a 351. You can always do a 351 block just freshen it up run your gt40 heads and upper intake. You can get a lower off eBay or CL any so forth. You'll be happy you went this route to begin with trust me! It'll be a torquey motor but worth it in the long run.
351 are nice... but I want a 331 Stroker. It's always been the plan... I am thinking I will save and either buy a crate motor, or buy the parts and build one myself... that way I can drive my car till it's built... Thanks Don

So If i got a 351 block, I could re-use my heads (with means I could re-use my headers), and my cobra upper intake would fit?. I would need a lower?. Should I do all forged internals?, will they last longer? And can I tune my stock EUC to run this motor, or should I maybe think of an after market one?. Also will I need a diff hood, as the 351 is taller?.
No, you can't reuse your heads. Infact, you shouldn't anyway. Your headers will not fit. You need swap headers. Your cobra upper will fit if you find a lightning lower. It's about $500 and a waste of money. Yes, the ECU can be tuned for the swap. I do it. Might be able to save you some money. You will need a larger than stock hood. A Cobra R is usually enough.
Been here, done it....just curious why you are set on 331? I too had it stuck in my head that I wanted a 331, built one for my 89 notch and regreted not goin 351 by the time the motor was done. After you nickel and dime and finally get the 331 together, you'll look back and think wow for the same money I coulda had xx more cubes. Whats long term plans/hp you want from the car?? If you're like 75% of the people on here, you'll get a motor done and still want more = start with 351 base
umm? okay I may have to re-think this... maybe I can just build a 351 from scratch, and then pull my motor and sell it... It's only got 3000k on it.. it just doesn't have enough power for me, and I want something a little different... a 331 stroker sounds awesome, and so dose a 351 with a big cam... I need to do some more research and think about it. I do have a buddy did a 351 swap on his 95, but he went all out, GT40 everything, he is making over 400 to the Flywheel.. I want somewhere around 350 to the wheels..... but more importantly, I want gobs of torque.
Also going with a 351 here, will allow me to beat e-test, i'll reg it as a hot rod... no more e-tests for me (Stick it to the man) LOL!

You are a very blessed man I haven't work a day fulltime since my daughter died... they call it "Starving artists" for a reason. But things will get better.. I am putting a portfolio together, which I am submitting to Marvel and DC Comics in august... So fingers Crossed things will get better.. I am not the type of person that give's up easy
