Hi all I’m starting to think about swapping out my 4.10 gears on my 2001 new edge for something like 4.30’s or is this a bad idea?
I only drive the car once or twice a week and normally only when the weather is good, this is my fun car.
I don’t care about MPG I just want fun. Will the 4.30 gears be ok or is this just to much?

4.30 that is a drag setup. U will hate this if u drive this on the street this increase your tq alot but ur top end will drastically reduce

when you're already unhappy with your traction situation, 4.30s are not going to help.

hello mate just to update you on the traction issue.
It was found that I had a broken rear right spring ( snapped one coil down from the top) and the rear left shock was leaking. I’m in the process of fixing this hopefully this will help out with the traction and now have 275/40/17 tyres fitted on the rear. the tyres were fitted first and that made a massive difference with the traction and it was when the tyres were fitted that the broken spring was found

that's good news. I bet that will make a difference, and it'll probably look more even too.

Ok I will forget about the 4.30’s and stick with the 4.10’s
Good choice. But, I did try 4.10's, and after a while it got old, hearing the constant higher RPM's. So. I went with 3.73s, and those were just right for me on my '03 GT. Our '04 Mach1 is fine with the Factory 3.55's. In time, you'll find out whether the 4.10's make you happy or not. I really hope you will like them. Bob.

Agreed I got 4.10s and I won't lie it doesn't help my power curve. Yeah my rpms hang up there but my.motor is built for that so no worries

I’ve had my 4.10’s on for a year now and I do love them. I can go full throttle at 2,000 rpm in any gear but at 3,300 rpm I will loose traction in any gear. For example if I’m in third doing 2,000 rpm at 30 mph and floor it the old girl is off and has 100% traction but only to 3,300 rpm and all goes wrong I’m guessing there must be a big bump in torque around that rpm?

It's not necessarily a big bump, it's just when the car actually begins to make any sort of power at all lol. Modular motors are not great at making power down low at all.

Stock thats true but built i wouldn't say that just depends on the build n power adder.

Yes the engine is stock except for the diablosport tune, UDPs, CAI, long tube headers, 4.10gears and aluminium prop shaft. No boost as of yet or forged internals but one day that will happen :)

Like I said those gears are for 1/8th track type setup. Not for daily or even a 1/4 unless the engine can go past 5k rpm and make power.

You need to experience the 5.4l. Their is no down shifting required.

For real though, the 4.6l really doesnt have it down low, but as long as its got enough to pull itself around puttering, the upper rpms is what counts
