Does anyone still do this or is it not being done much anymore. i know when i was around last time it was pretty popular and being done alot. There was a black SN95 that I was following (330cubed's) car I think it was. when I had my 98 I actually picked up a 5.4 to start the swap but I am not very machaniclly inclined and with out alot of help I cannot do a whole lot my self. As it goes I am now going to be getting back into the stang sport I think I could really want to do this swap. My goals are to get me a really nice looking Sn and a good power plant. Not looking to have a 500+ hp car just some thing nice and strong for the street and some fun at the track.

I can't remember names, but yes there are a few people kicking around that have done it.
I think termi swaps and soon coyote swaps will be the popular swaps?

Its a great swap. You go full forged for cheap!

A new cobra crank (forged) is 800$

A new forged 5.4 crank is 345$

Hps is still making their intake manifold and you can still get the adapter plates....the only thing that you can't get cheap are long tubes.... if you're not a perfectionist you could have an exhaust shop hack up some eBay longtubes.

Other wise its a really easy swap I see no down side esp if you in a NPI car and wanna go PI.... f150 motors are cheap!!!

Well I have not the money for either the termi or coyote swap. So it will be either the reg 4.62v or a 5.4 2v lol..

Regardless don't plan on revving past 6500 on a 5.4....

People charge out the ass for 4.6 pi motors.... even thought they were made from 99-11.... every taxi cop car came with one.

What years do people take the 5.4s out of? Aren't the pre 04 2v bad for launching spark plugs? Is there a fix of it?

I want a 5.4, but I want it in an f-150. My old truck was a blown 4.6.

03 might have 8 thread plugs 04 will have 8 thread plugs. If you ever blow a plug it can be fixed....but the 2v windsor heads off a mustang are exactly the same. Though you can put Romeo heads on it without an issue

If I am ever able to do it I would probably try to go which ever route I can with out having to take the motor apart and do all the insides stuff. At most I would want to do the heads and cams maybe but like I said I am not trying to make a race car just a nice lil street car. So in my mind I would want a close to stock 5.4 with some bolt-ons, auto tranny with a nice little stall and some gears. That's really about it, well plus exhaust.

Spend the extra coin to get an 04 motor then. If you spent 700 on a 5.4 (which is used retail you can find better prices locally) get some good shorty headers 400.... adapter plates 300 .... pi intake 200.... fresh motor mounts 50....

Its 800$ plus shipping.
The plates will work just fine in your application. People complaining about the injectors location can be ignored until you get above 550hp range.

Ive got a 2v 5.4l and have followed alot of swaps. The most rwhp ive seen with stock 2v heads is 320. Im sure more could be extracted but the heads really choke the potential. Trick flow heads seem to start around 375ish rwhp.

If you are serious about swapping to a 2v 5.4l keep in mind the torque is huge and power cuts off at 4500rpm. This said, switching a rear gear to anything over 3:55 kills the use of the car. Using a rear gear to maximize the power band (roughly from 1000rpm to 3500rpm) is ideal

So if you had to do it again would you do the 5.4 swap or heads cams and intake on the 4.6?

Head cams and intake.....on the 5.4l. But.....im not of the normal masses. The torque produced is down right crazy!
And i love driving my car. Key word "driving". When im in 5th gear and want to move around, their is no need to down shift. Power is available!!

Are you thinking n/a or eventually forced induced?
