Well after driving it home I made a quick decision to get my goals of a summer driver.
I am going to 5.4 swap this one like I did my 97.

I'm a little foggy on some of the details, but that isn't my question..

To any 5.4 guys, my concern is stretching out the powerband.

IIRC they were saying no higher than 5500 or so back when I did this swap.
Is that in internal issue, a cam issue, or what?

I will be using either a f150 or expedition engine, hps intake, 75mm tB and plenum, CAI, O/R H, and a catback I haven't chosen yet. I may also buy that COP adapter harness just to clean everything up. But that's more looks than anything.
I am already geared 3.27 and may keep it that way for a while.

My concern here is RPM usage do's and don't's.

I may add a small cam, if that will help.
I am essentially wanting to keep a stock range, you know up to 6k, or at least 5800, essentially, keep it from falling flat on it's face at 5k.

Also any place for a good running tune, the nearest dyno is 5 hours away, so I just want something to safely get me there. Now if they can't do cams, that is fine too, I will deal with that as a separate issue.
Any and all advice is appreciated.

The problem is 1 tiny intake valve and how the piston strokes over 4".
My rpm would touch 5500 with the comp274 cams but it was useless. The low rpm torque still over powered any high rpm hp.
The most rwhp I know from ford 2v heads is 317 and this was long tube, ported heads, and hps intake.
Im working towards extracting all that I can from what I have. If my set up touches 300rwhp ill be happy. Keeping a low budget is key for me.

So basically the heads are the main restriction? Even so, it seems that 310+ rwhp and a butt load of torque would still be pretty good.

So with the stock PI heads, even with cams, basically it won't do any better than stock cams up top?

Ok, I'll just make sure the rev limiter is set at 5500 so nothing will go wrong.

Yes...The heads are the restrictions. Even with big cams. But the bottom end torque is strong and with this said, its best to keep the rear gears below 3.55 to utilize the engines powerband. Though this sounds pathetic, even hard thumping cams with a very poor idle is still very strong at the bottom end and is very tame un like the little brother 4.6l.

Its not a track king running engine n/a, but daily driving it is a blast.

Anyone know of a place to get a startup tune for the swap?
Only real mod would be the HPS intake.

I just need something that will run safely for 5 hours.
Then I will drive to portland to get a dyno tune.

Im talking n/a numbers. Heck if 300rwhp was the boosted, I would just quite. ..lol.
If cubes are basically the upgrade, the 4.6l computer tune can handle just driving it
