Please help,I have replaced head gaskets on a 1995 ford Mustang 3.8 v6 and am installing the rockers and pushrods, I have the #1 at TDC and when reinstalling the pushrods/rocker arms on #1 hand tight I have about an eight-inch of space from rocker pedestal seat on head to rocker pedestal base so when i go to torque them my valve spring compresses, hence i stopped. I am using the parts that were removed and in order they were removed. The lifters are at their lowest point.

are they ajustable or none ajustable
Non-adjustable ,torque to 26 ft lb,i did torque them to take the gap up and let them sit, after 10 minutes i could turn the pushrod by hand so i am assuming the lifter bled down to zero lash?

so after you get oil pump to the top the lifters will take up that dead space
did you prime the engine first to build up oil psi
and get the lifters primed

I appreciate your responses, thank you.
I did not prime them, the engine has been apart for a few weeks doing the head gaskets but were pumped up and hard ,when i took the slack up between the rocker pedestal and pedestal channel on head ( less than 1/8" before seated) the valve started to open -I let it sit for 10 minutes and the valve closed, lifter bled off so the pushrod loosened enough so i could spin it so i am thinking all is ok and I will do one cylinder at a time this way unless I hear different.
This is my grandson's car and I am not familiar with Fords as I have always been a Chevy guy. (still have a couple of them)
