What’s going on everyone. I have this car posted on the new member rides and some info on the 4V tech forum but I figured I’d move everything into one spot to make it easy to follow.

Long story short, I detailed my 1996 Mustang Cobra back in 2016 when the previous owner brought it to me to detail after her husband passed away and the car had just been sitting for years. Car had 15k original miles and being that it’s one of my dream cars I told her that if she ever wanted to let it go, to contact me first. 4 years later I got the phone call and I went and picked it up. These are some of the pics from the day I bought it:

This car was very well put together. The previous owner definitely did not spare any money when building the car and all the work was done with quality. The car came supercharged with an a Vortech V1, an air to water cooler, and a bunch of other goodies which I’ll list later on. The motor was hurt. Had a tapping sound that came from the drivers side rear valve cover and I later discovered the cylinders 6,7,& 8 all had low compression.

As soon as I got the car back to my garage I started taking part the suspension as it needed some updating. Went with BC coilovers and swapped the front control arms for tubular ones from BMR Racing.

After getting it dialed in:

Next came wheels which came in the form of Set of Cosmis Racing XT-006r wheels, 18x9 Fronts and 18x11 rears with Nitto Tires all around. (I’ll post exact specs later in the thread.) I wanted a nice aggressive stance but I didn’t want to dump the car and make it undrivable. This is how it currently sits:

I’ll continue on the next post. Hope you guys like what you see so far.

So now onto the motor. So the motor in the car ended up giving out. I suspect it may be a cracked piston or bad rings. I will be tearing it apart to see and possibly build it later on.

So it turned out the the lady who sold me the car reached out to me about a motor that her husband had stored away. Upon speaking to a few people I was told that the motor was a prototype motor (not sure what that means) from Ford that was supposed to go into a project that Ford had going on at that time. The project was scrapped and the motor was sold to her husband. According to her the motor had been calibrated and put on a dyno. Never put in a car tho. So I went to look and sure as shit the motor appeared to be an identical Cobra motor. If anyone has any info on “prototype” motors please share. If you zoom in on the throttle body pic below there’s a red stick with “Ford Prototype” written on it. This sticker was on a few of the parts on the motor.

After all was said and done I ended buying the motor and swapping over everything from the old motor onto the new one. Car fired right up and runs perfect. This was the night I got it home and back in the garage:

Next the car will be going in for a tune. It will also be getting a few upgrades : Anderson Power Pipe, bigger MAF from SCT, and a bigger fuel pump. Goal is to break 500 whp so we’ll see. Other then that I’m just going to enjoy it. I’ll keep everyone posted on the results of the dyno. Thank you guys.

Thank you! No dyno numbers yet. Unfortunately my tuner hasn’t been available so in the mean time I had the rear quarters rolled and pulled a little and just got the car back. Tune is scheduled for March so I’ve just been sorting out a few things to get it ready. As soon as I get em I’ll post em up. Not sure what this set up will put up but I’m hoping to break 500whp. Fingers crossed. Lol.

Little update: Haven’t really done much to her these past few weeks other then installing the wideband to get it ready for the tune. Should be adding a few more goodies and doing the tune next week so I’ll keep everyone posted. In the mean time this is about the most expensive thing I’ve done to her this month. Lol!

Yea wasn’t that bad for me. Only 75$ or so for 93. 100$ is rough. And thank you. Every time I think of swapping these out for some else someone comments about them and it makes me not want to sell em lol.

Hi everyone. Just wanted to give you all and update on the Cobra. Tuner gave me a call yesterday and told me the car made 455whp on 13lbs of boost which I’m more then happy with being that the car is on a stock bottom end. Didn’t break 500 as I was hoping but after much research this is about at its limit for these motors and rather be safe the sorry. Still waiting on getting it back but it should be any day now. Waiting on an IAC valve since the idle was acting up and it was determined that was the culprit. Once that’s in it should be a wrap. Also a few updates on some new parts added while at the tuner.

Upgraded the MAF to an SCT 90mm, Added and Anderson Power Pipe with Velocity stack, relocated the IAT sensor, and got rid of the Vortex in-line Booster pump and swapped out the in-tank pump for a bigger one (340LPh). I also had to swap out the fuel pressure regulator as the one that was on the car wasn’t really doing it’s job.

All in all I am very happy with those numbers and I can’t wait to get it back so I can enjoy it. I’ll update everyone with a dyno sheet and video once I get it all back.
