And just fyi for anyone that has a 03-04 mach or aviator motor in their mustang, the 96-98 cobra intake cams will gain you roughly an average dyno proven 20hp. If degreed they will add close to 30hp. Not bad for a set of intake cams that can be had from $120-$200. The 98 cobra intake cams are preferred since they use the same gears/cam bolts to 99-04 dohc cams, if you go with 96-97 cobra intake cams you will have to use 96-97 gears/cam bolts. The exhaust cams are the same for all years pretty much so no gains in changing those out when swapping in 96-98 cobra intake cams.

the difference being bolt-on vs. press-on gears, right?

Nope, just a difference in the way the gear sits against the cam. I had some pics of them but can't seem to find them. Let me keep looking. What you have to do is basically grind the keyway down because if not when tightening them down the keyway will actually break the secondary timing gear. The 96-97 secondary gears are discontinued from ford so no way to get new ones. Another solution is to get Cloyes gears, they are multiple keyway gears so they are adjustable if you have the time and know-how on how to degree the cams.

You sure they aren't Mark VIII cams? I've seen many for sale threads on many forums with guys trying to pass off mark VIII intake cams as 96-98 cobra intake cams.
