As some of you might know:
I've got a 98 manual v6. The v6 has given me so many issues, so I'm gonna swap it out.
Got a NPI 2V 4.6L from a 1996 F150 in good shape. I just brought home a T45 to pair to that engine. But I'm noticing the f150 engine has a ton of things different from a 98 GT and was wondering if any of you had some advice or recommendations of how to get this thing in and running!
For example, I just noticed the f150 engine has an 8 bolt crank, while GTs got 6 bolt cranks. Is there a flywheel and clutch you'd all recommend for this swap?
I also noticed the f150 accessories use 8 rib belts, mustang uses 6 rib. Any recommendations to avoid switching the timing cover, cause I can't seem to find a 1998 specific cover.

Hold on here...

The F150 in 1997 was the 1st year for modular 4.6l, but anyhow....lets figure out what you have exactly.

Im not 100% positive if the 4.6l engine came 8rib accessory belt, but i do know the 5.4l did. Either or, a 6rib belt will work regardless of accessory pulley rib count. No front cover swap necessary.

To be 8bolt crank also eludes me to believe its a 5.4l, because the only 8bolt 4.6l was from the cobra 4valve up to the 2000's, it is a forged crank, and then 8 bolts began showing up in the cast cranks.

Can you snap a few pics of the 4.6l?

I dont have any pictures of the crank. Im fairly confident that it's a 4.6, unless somehow I got a surprise upgrade lol

Any part store equivalent clutch is adequate and they typically carry warranty for years. Be sure to get the clutch fork and throwout bearing. Also be sure the clutch fork pivot ball is in the transmission.....ive been there done that without one and had to wait for one to come in

All Windsor 4.6’s had 8 bolt cranks. Even the ones used in the Mustang from 1999 to mid 2001. Ford used them in those model years from the trucks because the Romeo engine plant couldn’t keep up with production.
