I am aware that this topic has a lot of different answers but I am trying to figure out what flywheel I need to purchase for my clutch replacement. I don't know what the bolt pattern for the flywheel is if its a 6 bolt or a 8 bolt flywheel. I have read on many different forums that the x in the vin means you have a 8 bolt flywheel. I have also heard it depends on how many bolts you have on the valve covers. I am confused on this. Any help would be great on this I know that everyone has a different opinion on this. I was told because its a 96 it should have a 6 bolt flywheel. I was also told it should have a 8 bolt because it has an x in the vin. It is not a cobra its a GT. Any and all help would be great I am trying to get all the parts I need before I change the clutch.
If its a stock untouched 96gt engine,...its a 6bolt. 8 bolt flywheels are all cobras and didnt start showing up untill 2000
I just did a google search for 1996 Mustang GT stock flywheel and this product came up on americanmuscle.com - Says for 96-98 GT's, so you should be good. Also read up on this thread underneath, believe it confirms you have a 6 bolt flywheel. http://forums.corral.net/forums/gt-...-flywheel.html#/forumsite/20549/topics/672804 http://www.americanmuscle.com/frpp-...eel-9600-6bolt-GSFitmentV1&year=1996&model=GT
