Got everything torn down almost. Tomorrow I should be able to pull the cams and get things rolling. I've got a ton of cleaning to do as well. So I'll purchase some cleaning supplies soon and work on replacing some stuff that bugs me like the ugly old belt tensioner pulley.

Another plus is all bolts accounted for lol. I always tell myself I'll do the bag and tag trick but never do. This time I'm committed and it's done. Tomorrow at work I'm taking all my hardware in for a good scrub in our definitely not for personal use boil tank we have set up. I thought about going full bolt strip and having them re coated but right now it's a little excessive.

Right now I'm making good progress and almost dreading putting it back together lol. I had a mach 1 I replaced the bottom end on and never ran again. 1 of 2 things happened. I got a bad short block or I butchered the timing because I failed to remove the followers prior to. But now 8 years in the future I've got actual visual aids on YouTube and I'm pretty confident I'll get this pulled off.

Yeah I know it's just that past experience haunting me. First start up going to be a big sigh of relief for me. Plus I've got another few years of wrench turning in me so that's helped

Honestly I think the one thing I'm most worried about is installing the new valve springs. Thara gonna be a first

What kind of spring compressor are you going to use? What’s your plan for doing them?

I've got one of the 4v specific tools that bolts to the cam cap locations. Plan is to get it at TDC. Compress and remove replace. I'll take suggestions on a grease to use when re installing the keepers because I currently don't have any

That should all do you just fine. Tdc keeps the valves from falling in, I’d recommend valve seals at the same time. Use some assembly lube on the seals, and I magnetize the end of a small pocket flathead screwdriver to put the keepers in. It takes a couple try’s to get used to it, but it’s what has worked best for me.

Great info I appreciate it! Here's another one I've wondered. Which side of the keeper goes up top? I assume the fat part of what becomes the cone is the top? It's kind of hard to tell in the videos I watch

Does the 4v specific tool bolt on top of the cam caps or with the cams removed and on top of the tower? I can see it working either way, but you never know. Find out for sure before you dig in. It would suck having to remove the cams just to swap out valve seals.

the tool you have to remove the cams. it bolts to the top of the cam towers themselves.

Fat part of the keeper toward the top. Once you remove one, you’ll see it for sure. And don’t forget, the cam caps are specific to their location and orientation. They need to go back in exactly where they came out.

Cams are all out. Time to pay that Modular head shop bill and send out my cams for degreeing.

No issues getting everything torn down so that's a plus. I got the caps marked with sharpie but I feel like I need to paint marker them. Sharpie is not sticking well at all

More cam stuff. Took some cardboard and labeled it with each cylinder number. I have it orientated exactly how it goes in the car. So even if my cam cap writing comes off it's still correct. I also placed each follower in its correct spot as well. I don't think it matters but I want to put them in exactly where they came from.

Also got my cams and timing gears boxed up and ready to ship off to modular head shop for degree service. I tossed this idea around of buying the tools and doing it myself but the 100 bucks additional was well worth 6 to 8 hours of my time in the garage.

Well I wanted the nt05 and they've been on backorder for months. I canceled my order on AM and picked these up today on Amazon. Should be here next week and I can finally use these wheels I've had sitting in the garage for a year

Purchased some new shocks and struts yesterday. Went with the eibach proline kit to match the springs I have.

Got an email from modular headshop about my cam degree. It's all done and paid for they're on their way home via ups.

Also have some new coil covers for when I go coil on plug. Picked them up for super cheap from a buddy of mine.

Finally, got the ats/camaro brakes fitted up with my friends kit. Things fit great clears my 17 inch terminator wheel perfectly. I had a hiccup because I'm an idiot but now we're good to go.
