Putting newer heads on my 98 gt 4.6 2v, just going back with the npi heads due to financial reasons. I already have the heads and all required gaskets, my main concern is timing I've done some research and I've come up with what I believe is correct. Both timing marks on the cams should be around 11 o'clock with the timing mark on the balancer on TDC. Is this correct?

Damn. Its easier if the components get market and its disassembled at RDC. I can't recall off the top of my head. I'll have to dig into my note book. Unless one of the smart guys here can remember.

And just a warning, when you turn the motor over by hand, it takes like 40-something rotations to get everything lined up again.

Stretch chain length wise making 2 parallel chain lines with one connecting link at each end, then paint the end links. Put your timing marks there

Also don't forget, on the left side (driver side) sprocket there is a raised piece, that is the trigger for the cam sensor NOT the timing mark. You want the timing chain lined up on the dot on the cam sprocket.

Post up some pictures when you think you are getting close and we can all look at it and let you know if it's set correctly.

I marked the chain like that and lined everything up and to get the slack out of the driver side chain i had to turn the cam. otherwise there would be a ton of slack on the wrong side.
