I was looking for a subie or truck for a daily. But I decided not to get either, I'd love to grab an 02-04 GT. I always wanted one, and I know these cars well so I'd like to stay with the SN95 platform. Anyways.. It'll be a GT and 5 speed ofcourse. I know what to look for body wise and obviously trans and clutch.. What should I pay attention to with the motor? These 4.6s prone to anything? I've heard of the infamous spark plug thing. I'm looking at the newest one possible so 03-04.. Yes it'll be a daily winter included. I'll grab a set of blizzaks for it for the winter, no big deal. Really thought about it and I'd rather get something I'm familiar with, and I just want a 2nd Mustang anyways. It won't be anytime soon, but hopefully before next winter.

How is a new edge going to be an improvement over your current car as a daily?

I'm not looking for it to be an improvement over mine. I just want a daily, and favor the 99-04s. I can't go out and grab a little fwd 4 banger, never going to happen. A truck just wouldn't be practical for me. The subaru is too expensive for an older car, and I don't know much about the platform. I'd rather get a new edge.

Subie for a daily

And I think the point Orange is trying to make is that the SN95's may not be as reliable due to the old age, so you getting a slightly newer SN95 seems contrary to the whole "reliable daily" idea.

So either

1. An SN95 makes a great daily
2. An SN95 makes a horrible daily

If it makes a great daily... perfect. You already have one. If it doesn't, then why get it.

I just can't wrap my head around why you would buy the exact same car with different body lines. It's the same frame, same amount of space, same crappy mpg. What's the benefit? (apart from having 2 cars to insure, 2 cars to buy parts for (and if you buy a mustang you surely will buy parts), and 2 cars to spend gas money on)

I can't go out and grab a little fwd 4 banger, never going to happen.
why not?

I just don't understand what the purpose of owning two of the same car. Like what advantage will the new edge have as a daily over your current car, why spends $1000s?

It just sounds like 2 projects to me. Which IMO is an extremely dumb idea for a student. Personally I would either make do with what you have, or buy a daily that would actually have benefits to ownership. For a daily driver I would look for the best combo of the follow that you can afford; age, low km, fuel economy, cost of ownership (insurance and maintenance ),weather driveability (height, drivetrain...). Then I would focus on the sportyness.

But don't listen to me. If you're looking for a new edge there is a sticky I made of common problems.

You can find all sorts of subarus for under 4k. I had to laugh that you dont want to dd your mustang so you buy another mustang. I too am looking for a daily driver as I soon will have a garage to park my mach in. However I am purposely looking for something that wont drive me to spend money on it, like another mustang.

I guess I'm one of those guys that hates having a Mustang as a daily. I'd almost guarantee if you get a 99-04, you'll want to sell your current car and keep the 99-04. Then you'll be back at square one. Get you a subie!

I don't get it. My '98 is a great daily for me. Then again, I've only driven three other cars my whole life so the competition isn't very steep. I can't even begin to imagine some of your guy's standards for a daily if an 'SN in great shape isn't good enough...

I'm not looking for a 99-04 as a great daily. I just want one as a daily. I don't care about gas mileage, if I did I wouldn't have a V8. I know it's pretty much the same car, but I really like them and would like to stay with the SN95 platform. I want something somewhat newer to bounce around with so I can build my 95. Subarus over here are 10k plus. I will never get a fwd car, I just can't own one, personal reasons.. Only 4 cylinder I'd own is a subaru. I would only buy a car with low mileage, I'm not looking at cars with 90k plus, again personal preference. I love my 95, it's a great car and extremely reliable, but I plan on building it so I need another car to drive. A new edge feels right to me, V8, 5 speed.. Fun reliable daily. Obviously another Mustang means more mods, and I'm fine with that. It's not a big deal. However I did say this wouldn't be right away, end of this year maybe the beginning of next. I guess I'm not one of those to buy a small 4 cyl daily, just not going to happen.

Some of us get winter.
My mustang wouldn't survive as a daily here.

Man the snow is the only obstacle I really see here. If your comfortable driving in the snow then do it. Our cars get pretty good mpg for sports cars. It's your call

I'm with you. The snow tires I have are pretty good, it makes snow driving a lot more controlled than normal. The gas mileage is decent, all depends on how heavy your foot is too.. But like I said if I was worried about gas mileage I wouldn't have a mustang. I don't mind modding another Mustang, it would be fun and keep me entertained while the 95 gets built. So I'd rather have fun in a daily, and a mustang is right for me lol. I'll undercoat the body underneath like I did on my 95, snow tires for the winter..

Whats wrong with FWD? I couldn't imagine to going back to DD'ing my mustang. The fusion is spectacular, and I don't care how much money ya have, or how little you care about mpg's. Gas savings means more money for other stuff (i.e. parts). I'm not pushing a Prius, but 30 mpg vs 20 mpg is huge.

I just don't like it. Never like the idea of fwd. Sure they're great in the snow, but I'll never own one. Not bashing them in anyway shape or form, just won't be something you'll catch me buying. My sister has a 2012 fusion, its a great car. Just not for me. You have a point on the gas part, but I don't really pay attention to that. Better gas mileage would be nice, but it's not too important for me to buy a daily based on gas mileage.

When you don't have to pay for insurance + a majority of parts, who cares about money

I would never DD a mustang ever again either. My sentra gets 35 mpg city as opposed to my mustang that gets an average of 18 with me behind the wheel. It has the cheapest insurance coverage I could afford, doesn't ever need new parts, and has 130K miles and still goes strong. But hey, FWD isn't for everybody.

If you think another mustang is right for you and you'd enjoy it, by all means go for it.

I thought you were a hard core pushrod warrior... this makes me lol. I can guarantee once you get a new edge GT, it will become your new project car/baby. Your old car will fall to the way-side once you realize how much better the 4.6 is.

I DD my old 99 V6 because I didn't have a choice at the time and it was my only vehicle. Now that I have a wide assortment, I would NEVER DD any SN95 ever again... especially at your age because of the maintenance costs, fuel costs, insurance costs, etc. It just doesn't make sense any way you look at it. There are so many good, reliable, 4 bangers out there that would make a much better DD for you. It's your money and your life, but I'd highly suggest getting a small FWD, especially because of where you live and the weather/snow that you receive during the winter months.

I don't understand how a truck isn't practical? A little ranger or s10, or a Tacoma? They are like the definition of practicality.

I agree, knock on wood, my ranger has never had a serious issue in the time that I've owned it and is very practical for moving small things here and there. Little trucks may not be popular because the gas mileage isn't the same as a car, but they are very "practical"

I love my Ranger. The only major issue I had was when the timing belt broke one day. (Thank God is a non-interference engine.) It was pretty easy to replace it and I DD'd that truck for years before getting my Vics. It has well over 200K on the odometer as well, just like the ol' lady's escort.
