Hi guys n gals. I pulled my shifter surround out because I want to remove the cigarette lighter and install a flush mount USB charger. I do not want one that pushes into the cigarette lighter because then the little flip cover will no longer work. Also there is very little room for the flange so I'm wondering if anybody has done this before and where did they get their flush mount in dash USB charger? I'm thinking I might have to look at a marine supplier because they sell a lot of stuff that you can Dash Mount flush. Photos attached for reference. Thanks in advance!20230328_140156.jpg

the lighter assembly just unscrews. Stick your thumb in in and then twist the back and it comes right out.

Yes, I replaced mine with a dual USB.
I also replaced the one inside the center console with a dual USB. That one is wired directly to the 2 USB outputs on the radio I have.

Definitely lots on Amazon

I know how to undo a cigarette lighter for replacement. My question is which USB ports will fit under the flip Hideaway cover because I like that feature. I'm concerned some may be a little chunky and you won't be able to close the little lid cover. This is the one that's up by the shift lever.

Or is it possible that the cheap Amazon push in ones will push in far enough to close the little lid?

Anything like this will fit. Just pull the cover off that comes with the USB adapter.

Maybe... but there is only about 1/10 inch clearance when you flip the little lid closed. That's not very much.

I have the front console surround out of the car. Might as well take it with me to some bricks and mortar stores to check clearance.

I’m actually doing this soon and will probably cheat off of what you guys come up with here.

This is similar to what I used for the radio's USB inputs.

That socket looks like it has a male USB cable at the other end. How would this connect to the spade end connectors inside the upper shift console? It sort of looks like an extension cord.

You can find ones that have different input terminations. There's all kinds of options out there. They even have ones with capacitive soft touch power switches on their faces to enable the USB ports, backlit and everything. Fitting behind the shifter bezel cover might be a challenge though. I chose to leave that one as a traditional cig lighter port while the other cig lighter in the center console got the USB ports.

there is a brace behind it that can get in the way but the lighter assembly itself hangs down 2-3" behind it so there is at least that much space.

Got thinking about it and I wanted to put an USB plug there for my older radio. This is what I bought awhile ago:

That was before I found a universal Bluetooth adapter that worked with my radios aux input. Now I’m thinking about deleting the radio to save a few pounds.

It doesn't, read what I wrote. It connects to an aftermarket radio.
The first one I linked is for the shifter console.

This is the linked amazon charger above.....Phones evolve, and charge faster all the time, I'd hate to limit myself to whatever wattage I hardwire into a permanent USB port. This thing charges "Super Fast". lol
