Hi guys!

It must be like 2 years since ive last posted on the forum but Im an old member and have always enjoyed being part of it. I live in Cochamba, Bolivia which is in South America and I have a rio red 94 mustang gt convertible. My dad bought it new back in 94 when we still live in the states and we moved down here around 97. My dad gave it to me as a present in 06 as a highschool graduation gift.
Well for the last 2 years I lost interest in the stang, mainly cause it would always fail on me, overheating was the big issue and I never could fix it good so I could never enjoy driving it and it was a pain in the a$$ always. I have now a 2014 kia rio manual 6 speed as a daily but I miss the feel of a V8. My stang has been stored almost a year and half. I tried selling it but people wanted to pay to little and all my friends convinced me of not doing it cause I would regret it in the future. They are right because mustangs are really rare down here especially V8s so I decided im going to keep it and give her the attention she needs jeje.

As much as I love turbocharged and supercharged engines, I think it will be hard to tune them down here as we dont have specialist who can do it, I have a bunch a friends with subarus and evos but those cars come with turbo from factory so its easier to tune them.

To avoid issues on the build in the future I guess its better to go N/A so what do you guys suggest me to build? Im looking of the 350-400 hp range, dont know if to go stroker with a 331 or 347, high flow heads and intake, big cam (have a tfs1 now), 4.10 gears, rebuild my transmission cause 3rd gear is grinding and I dont know what else I will need.. of course $$$$ :D

The build would be kind of slow cause it will be expensive to import all the parts but I got the time. For now I want to focus on the engine mods and have it running nice, then the exterior mods will come which for now I have it covered.

Sorry for making the thread so long but all your opinions will be very helpful for me so lets start with the ideas!! :headbang:

Start by finding cause of overheating and third gear. Both of those issues will follow. Then figure out how you're going to tune. That will help decide what you can build.

the overheating issue ill fixed it with a new radiator and the Tstat, my old radiator has been fixed like 100 times, it has new water pump now. It doesnt have AC so i dont think that would be the issue. The 3rd gear issue I will get the T-5 rebuild kit from Summit. I got a friend/mechanic who loves V8s so he will be the one that will help on the assembling for the new build and tuning, actually he is the only one in my city who knows about V8s and can have them working good. Recently he finished restoring a replica AC cobra.

So what kind of build can I go with?

Unless your planning on going carb, your still going to need tune.
The other option would be is get a stand alone system like Quaterhorse or PMS And learn to tune it yourself.

what are the advantages and disadvantages of going carb? Ive heard of the PMS computer so I could purchase it in the future to tune the car once the build is finished.

yeah anways the tuning would be the last part, first I would need to start with build for the engine, I know there is alot of shops like DSS racing, CHP, Dart and others but Im not sure where to start.

ok i got the tuning part covered with my friend, Im sure he can do it. I just thought tuning for boosted applications would be harder. Anyways I want to go N/A and I think 300-350 whp is more believable for a mild N/A build, I want to keep the car streetable but ocasionally some drag races.

jajaja id love the boost but i dont know im afraid of it not tuning it perfectly, i prefer a 331 or 347 stroker, with that setup i would be happy. What is the best site to get a assembled block and then which parts so should i get for H/C/I? Trickflow, AFR, Edelbrock?

Any of those heads would work for you, if it was me I'd probably go with AFRs. I'd feel better buying a rotating assembly and having someone I trusted build the motor, but it sounds like that may not be an option for you. If you're not planning on building it yourself, maybe you should look into buying a used motor that's already built. Check out the classifieds here and on the Corral forums, there are usually a ton of built used motors for sale on there for considerably less than what you would pay to built one.

I had the engine rebuilt 2 years ago, its a 306 now with hypereutic pistons which was a bad call from what i read, has a TFS stage1 cam but doesnt do too much cause still has stock heads and intake, has CAI, no cats, MSD wires, cap, rotor and blaster coil, UD pulleys.

I was thinking this would be a good kit to start with http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/tfs-k514-360350b/overview/. Then get some BBK long tube headers, ford racing clutch kit or something better, short shifter, ford racing 3.73 gears, 255lb fuel pump, fuel pump regulator, 24lb injectors with matching MAF, MSD ignition box. Thats what comes to my head for now, not sure if its ok...

Sounds like a good plan to me, your short block with cam are a good starting point already, get a good head and intake package and it should run real good with the 373's. You might be able to save some money by looking for just heads and intake, although that tfs kit has everything you would need, I'm guessing it comes with the tfs stage 1 cam you already have.

The link is the TrickFlow trackheat package, which comes with intakes, twisted wedge 170cc heads, stage 1 cam, valve covers, timing chain, gaskets. I have the stage 1 cam already but the price for all that comes in the package is decent at 2800$us.

The stroker part is what has me has me thinking on what combo to buy, and if I go 331 or 347.. also the brand there are so many to choose like DSS racing, CHP, Eagle, Scat, Summit. You think its worth going with the stroker or should I just buy the trickflow HCI pacakage. I assume I will need to get larger injectors, maf and fuel pump to complete the build.

Depends on how much power you want to make. For me, I think that track heat package would be great for the street, but if you want well over 400hp then you would need to go stroker.
