My buddy has a set of aftermarket axels on his 95 GT. I told him "good 4 u" laughing in my head. But really, is there a strength improvment in aftermarket 28 splines? I thought it was pointless to upgrade unles you go with 31 spline. Maybe someone could shed some light on this for me. This is my first post and im new here. Owned my GT 4 a lil over 2 years and I want to start running slicks. Help
they are better than stock, but not nearly as good as 31 splines...for the price, it is better just to get 31 splines and a better differential.
you can if you launch high enough on sticky tires and a sticky track..actually i've seen it happen with not that high of a launch.
If he doesn't plan on allot of hard lauches on slicks the aftermarket 28 splines are fine. Grant it 31 spline will take more abuse, but if the car isn't raced regularly, is it worth the extra cost to swap axle's and carrier? I ran Moser 28 spline axles in my supercharged 86. The car did see the track a couple times a year, but never ran slicks. Matter of fact I plan on running 28 again, in my 84 project. To me a mod is determined but the intended use of the car, withn what a budget will alllow...
I HAVE BROKEN AN AXLE. YEP, IT'S TRUE. I LAUNCH @ 5500 AND AWAY WE GO!!!! :rollinglaugh: IT BROKE ABOUT 4" FROM THE C CLIP ELIMINATOR. GO ME! WENT WITH 31 SPLINE AND LOVE IT. PEACE OF MIND. O0
My friend with the aftermarket 28 splines runs 26 10.50 hoosiers on his 95 5.0. I really think hes in for a surprise. I cant wait to get to tell him I told you so. He practically every weekend, weather permitting.
my buddy here in houston has a 2002 Mustang GT with full bolt-ons and longtubes, Comp stage 1's with ported P.I. heads stock size stainless valves, UPR suspension, 3000 stall w/lockup, 410's, j-mod, built bottom end running 10:1 on a NX wet 100 shot. He did 265 on 7 cylinders on a dynojet (found out a injector was faulty) He ended up with 287 NA all motor with 100 shot on top. He actually broke the stock splinesM
so how much would a 31 spine and diff cost? i'm trying to wrap my mind around it here... i wouldn't touch Drag Radials or Slicks with out at least 31 spine...
Danger Ranger! Yeah they did and Exploder's at some point, I don't recall which one's are the right ones for our car's though.
yea that was going to be my next question... which rangers had 8.8's and the axles the same lenght. lol o well.
