Teh 97 I bought has MAC long tubes on it and I am seriuosly deabting about taking them off. The car needed a tranny and I caught hell takin out the tranny with the LT's. Doubt I would of got it out if the bell housing wasn't busted. And not to mentiont he starter bolts. Right now I am leaning toward takign off the LT incase I have to install a starter or if the tranny has to ever come back out. What are the secert to the Mod motors with long tubes as far as tranny & starter replacement????
Exactly what I have been thinking!! Looks like I wil be taking the LT's off and see if I can trade them for shorty's..
The secret to longtubes + Mod motors is.. GET A TUBULAR K MEMBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hammer: :hammer:
hellz yeah. :dancing6: and the gains from the LTs are definitely worht the pain. i mean how many times to you actually have to pull out the tranny or replace the starter. and the "little HP loss" is actually a decent amount. LONGTUBES 4 LIFE...unless you go turbo ^-^
I gained 30 rwhp from my long tube where shorties I didn't gain shit. It's a pain in the ass to get the starter in I dropped the k. Takes time but you can get it in. Shorties are all sound no go. It's been dyno proven TOO MANY times.
I find it hard to believe you got 30hp just from lt's. I would have to see that to believe it. Shorties were made for street cars. LT's were made for track cars. Tubular K members are nice, but 400 bux plus install.
Actually the Longtubes are known to gain 20+ hp throughout the powerband where shorties don't. Longtubes are the better mod for our cars regardless of what they were intended for. They wake these cars up and buying the "right" longtube eliminates tranny and starter issues. O0
Dang guys, now yo got me thinking.. The LT's are already on there,,,hhhmmmmm!!!!! So now I have a few days to think about it, since hurting my ankle and can't work on the 97..
Loosen the passenger side header bolts a few turns each, that seems to work for me, and a little "gentle" prying never hurt... Save up for a tubular K-member, some of my best money spent.
