Toying with the idea of doing some vinyl wrapping on the interior to get rid of some of that "everything is plastic" appearance.

Has anyone here ever tried to vinyl wrap the door switch panel? It has the really deep door pull area, wondering what the best way would be to wrap all the way inside it.

I am curious what vinyl your going to use that would get rid of the plastic feel?

On the door cup that would require a custom sewn piece to fit its not something your going to just use heat to stretch it down.

Oh it will always FEEL like plastic, but I'd like it to at least LOOK less like plastic LOL.

In an ideal world I'd have the whole interior leather wrapped.

But since my motivation to rip the dash out of the car and pay an upholstery shop for that kind of project is even less than my motivation to replace the rear lower control arm bushing in my BMW in which every bolt is entirely seized, I have been toying with the idea of doing a vinyl wrap with Vvivid Fine Grain Leather (has a "soft touch" apparently) and Black Brushed Metal on the accents.

My old 2013 Acura TL had lots of faux carbon fiber plastics, and my old Volvo V60 had plastic "brushed metal" accents that gave the cars a nice modern feel in spite of their plasticity.

Vinyl is relatively inexpensive and I saw a Mercedes dash and door panel on YouTube being wrapped in a black "leather." IMO it looked nicer than the OEM SN95 textures.

But I've never seen it in person so maybe it'll look like garbage :)

I took the time to smooth out and then painted the pull cups in a nice gloss black. I did the center dash area and gauge cowl the same and it cleaned things up a lot in my opinion. If you want to change it up try smoothing it out and then find a hydrodip design you like. They sell kits on ebay to do it yourself all you need is a cooler or a big tub to fill with water.

plastidip comes in various colors now. You can peel it off when you get bored with it.

About 18-19 years ago, I went with a set of these:

I also got one to match my dash clock. It was cheap and silly, but I was a teenager trying something new, and trying to distract from all the red that came with my car (infamous porno red interior) After about a year I decided that I actually liked the look enough to simply take out the panels and paint them myself. Many people do it. It may not be leather but it does help the look. If you’re thinking about doing something like this, but aren’t real sure, try the decals first to see if you indeed like the color choice.

I guess I'm stuck in my old ways
Old school, I like the stock panels and interior that come with the car

A lot of “old school” hot rodders agree. The plastic 90s look is totally in right now.

Most of the younger people do like the old school stuff
They look at the wraps and different colors on dashboard
Then they look at mine and say mine is really clean looking and still has that old school feel to it
I do keep them clean as possible

I know what you mean about the red interior! Painted mine black but it never really matched the console or the carpet I took out of a wrecked car, which were charcoal. Eventually, went back to red [s197] leather seats in the black/charcoal interior and it looked alright. Ultimately, swapped that stuff out for the grey interior out of my wrecked '98 GT.

you can also try hydro dipping. It will not get rid of the plastic feel but you can make a big change in the look. They have DIY kits on ebay, all you need is a tub of water big enough to dip the part in.
