Does anyone know what this part does or what it’s purpose for being there ?

There’s one in each of the rear wheel arches behind the rear tyres

I noticed today when I took the rear wheels off that one of these things was half hanging off so I’ve removed it for now

Thanks

I believe its part of crash components....maybe. Not really needed for the function of the car, but there to support something in the event of a crash??? Kind of like a bumper. Totally useless untill something bumps the car. I think youll be alright without it tho.

I've seen that part on my car. I'll have to look to see if it's still there. I believe there's one on each side. Either way I think it's going to be gone...

Crash scene responders got tired of trying to move cars with flattened tires so they bandaided it with these. Adds a layer of protection between sheet metal and tire, specifically from rear-end collisions.

Probably depends on if they even check for them and what kind of day they're having. Maybe they won't even notice. Never know. They probably weigh hardly anything, better to just leave them installed.
