i have a steal of a deal on some 03 cobra 17X9 wheels, nitto and bfgoodrich websites both say for the 315/35/17 that the wheel width needs to be 10.5-12, i was wondering if anyone ignored that and was sucessful mounting 315/35/17 on a 9 inch wide rim? thanks a lot.

yes you can, but i wouldnt do it...not much of point, because it will be a scary huge bulge and you wont get as much tire to ground as you would with say 295s, since the wouldnt be sitting flat.

yeah, unfortunately nitto and BFGoodrich only make a 275/40, then a 315/35, nothing in between, as far as street drag radial, which is what i want to run. I have 275/40 on my 95 cobra r wheels now, but i want a meatier tire, but i guess with these 17" 03 cobras, i wont have a choice.

i believe the reason they say that 315s are too wide for a 9" rim is because they do not seat on the rim properly... hence the "bulge"

I cant understand why people would put that big of a Drag Radial on that narrow of a wheel. It defeats the purpose as the contact patch will be smaller because you have to force that tire on the wheel. A 10.5 inch wheel will benefit that tire and will enhance traction.

I remember back when I was in the tire business and I advised some people that when I sold them DR's that they are putting on too big of a tire and why. Of course they ignored it. Then a week or two later coming in complaining about the tires breaking loose and such and I would simply tell them well I can sell you the right tire now that you are ready to listen. :rollinglaugh:

i swear BFG makes a 295 or 285 DR...i guess not :dunno:

They do, for 18s, as far as 17 inchers go, both Bfgoodrich and Nitto Make 275/40, then 315/35, nothing in between. for 18s, nitto has a 285, and bfgoodrich makes a 295, that could be what you were thinking of...
