I know I cannot be the only one that HATES the location of the cupholders in a 98 Mustang. Right behind the shifter, and one is super shallow. They are completely useless in a manual. Not only do I smack the drink shifting gears, but if I use the farthest back one and shift super slow, if I take any turns the drink just flops over.

I bought a pre 98 console insert with the slide out cupholder at a junkyard and have been trying to get it into my console, but it won't go all the way down. I am thinking it is the 12 volt plug in that is preventing it, but am not entirely sure. I figured I would ask here and see if anyone has done it and how to make it happen before I either lose that plug in by removing it and/or breaking it.

The 98-00 consoles cup location sucks? I guess I'm glad I just bought an 01-04........

Can you remove the cig plug to see if it fits then?

I don't use the stock CAN holder (that's all that will fit) in my 95 either. An 01-04 console is in my future but until then I just set my Turvis by the e-brake. A bottle can sit there too as well as by the seat belt.

I like my 2000 console. Its only slightly annoying when I get a slurpee. Usually catch the straw.

At the Starbucks drive though I have to squeeze my 24oz white chocolate mocha in my 94 GT pop out cup holder. Now if I'm getting two drinks im royaly f@&ked and my balls become a cup holder.

YES!!!!

The in the armrest cup holder sucks even more. I picked up a 01-04 for $40 on ebay and its way better and has a better design around the armrest.

The best cup holder I've used in this car is 5'6" and blonde... [end of bad joke]

The fact that anyone uses the center console of a '94-'04 mustang for holding drinks to me is hilarious.

Next to your ass on the right nudged against the console, or use your hand and drive with the other.

Wonder why every carpet in every mustang in every junkyard is soaked with coffee/soda stains, there's your answer lol.

LOL...you guys don't know how to do it....I swapped a 98 console into my 94 I REAALLY hated the pull out cupholder! Sure the 98's holders are a lousy location & the rear shallow one is downright dangerous! Ok so I merely put the cups in either holder or fill both holders if needed. Then I lay my fore arm over the tops of the cups & shift my TriAx with a flick of the wrist! The cups are held steady... it is easy to do with the short shifter...I did not want to paint a New
Edge console...

Yes it will work if you take out the cig lighter/power point....

Makin progress, had to pickup adhesion promoter before I did the console. Only used Dawn Soap, Vinyl Prep, and Black Landau for the pad.

I just took the center compartment out of my 98 and put the 94-97 compartment with the cup holder into the 98 console. I had to cut 2 small notches for the cuphold to come out but it works great. I have a space to put my iPod in and still have two cup holders.

I will have to post a couple of pictures when i get home this afternoon, I forgot i hadn't done that lol. The only issue, I cannot use my cigarrette/a/c port when the cup holder is out. It bolts right in and i had to just cut two small notches into the console just do the cup holder would sit flush and lay flat. The 94-97 console lids are magnetic, and the 98 -up are latch types. So i had to make a magnetic catch... I took it from the old console i robbed at U-pull

Does the plastic piece (screws to arm pad) not swap between all the years? I thought the pad was the same part number, just changing the inside piece, the bolt holes looked the same to me, But I haven't tried swapping yet.
