Bad head gasket, fix or engine swap?

How much would a head gasket repair run on average? Is it worth it or should I look to swap engines?

Car has white exhaust, boiling degas bottle that spits coolant, and exhaust smells sweet. Nothing getting into the crankcase though.

try a compression test on it but that sounds like head gaskets

Local guy I've used before (Ford Tech) home garage said $1000 including head milling.
