Been working on the car little by little.
Motor and Gas tank done, pump lines and rails are all that is left.

Switching to an external pump setup, so the sending unit will be used for fuel level sensor only.

Lot will soon be ready for the house to be built and I can finish this thing up while we still have some summer.
Was really hoping to have the mustang done already, but such is life right.

Nice to see everything back in place.

The Good
No more fluid leaks and the car started right up.
Thing sounds like a beast

The Bad
I have a hanging idle that will not go away.
First check engine light was idle air overspeed - replaced IAC valve (from Advanced Auto) and fixed the code but still a hanging idle.
Car idles perfectly - but hangs when revving or shifting.
Sometimes after it hangs and finally drops back down the car will stall and sometimes it will continue to idle.

No vacuum leaks so far as I can tell.
Got a new engine code today for the VSS, could this be the problem?

Any ideas here would be much appreciated.

For those that don't know, I just completed a PI swap (98 GT) with Stage 2 cams and totally redid the fuel system.
Return Style/External pump - fuel pressure set around 55 PSI with 24 lb injectors.

Quick update - VSS was bad but did not correct the hanging idle.

Car goes for tuning tomorrow - tuner said it is most likely an ECU issue.
I'll keep you all updated.

In the shop
Definitely a tune issue. Upgraded cams and 24lb injectors will wreck havoc to the computer

Dropped the car off today. Should be done tomorrow but I don't think I'll have time to go grab it until Thursday.

Anyway - Feel free to guess numbers for the build thus far.

98 GT - Approximately 200000 miles on the bottom end.
Mustang Dyno
SCT Tuner
Full PI Swap, Stock Heads with Stage 2 MHS cams
BBK Long Tube Headers, catted H into 2.5" SLP catback.
Steeda UDPs
A/C Delete
Aeromotive return style fuel system - A1000 external pump with regulator.
ACCEL 24 lb injectors
70mm throttle body and plenum
BBK Cold Air with stock MAF
31 spline rear end with 4.10 gears

Well the time for forging has begun.

Motor back out and completely torn apart.
Will be taking it the machine shop as soon as parts arrive, ordered them from CMS on 1/1/16.

Can anyone tell me what these pipe plugs located below the freeze plug are for?

Nice work on the motor and engine bay. What kind of numbers did it make with the PI and cam swap? Did you pull the motor back out because of a problem or just want more?

Dyno'd at 285/291, but unfortunately spun a rod bearing shortly after.
So since I was planning on going supercharger later anyway, I figured I would just go ahead and forge the motor now.

Part 2 complete:
Motor is forged, assembled and installed.

The car is driving great!
Just hit the 500 mile mark for clutch break-in period.

Next step is to have the exhaust re-done and then I'll take it back for tuning.
Still having that hanging idle issue.
