You want a badass brake kit at a low price then keep your eyes open for the 2000 style cobra R brembos. These are a direct bolt in. No extra brackets and bullshit to buy. And I dare you take them to their limits. I scored one of two sets from my race buddy for $400 with the SS lines on them and some race pads. He switched up to the newer much bigger GT500 Brembos. He races in American Iron so yea. I run mine with regular brembo street pads for the street and switch to race pads before an event. I use RBF600 fluid. In the rear I have 94-04 cobra brakes. Alone with brake cooling ducts I have not come near to the limits of these badboys.

Oh and forgot to add these are the 13" ones. There were two 13" and 14". The 13" uses your normal cobra spec rotor which allow you to run 17" wheels. The 14" required running 18" wheels. I was taught to run the biggest brakes you can in the smallest wheels possible to save money. There's about a $100 difference between 17" and 18" tires.

Another vote for 2000 Cobra R kit. It's been nothing but excellent, and surprisingly cost effective solution. The key to being cost effective is that you can run 13 inch Cobra rotors, which are cheap, 17 inch wheels and tires, which are pretty cheap as well. I managed to get a very good setup going, because I cleared a 17x10 Enkei RPF1 over the brake kit, giving me one of the lightest wheels on the market, and an excellent size for 275 R-comps.

I did a cost analysis for kits and such and i found that for Wilwood, there is a $100 difference between the 13" kit and 14". Tires were about $41 each (NT01 275/40/17 and 275/35/18). Wheels are about $67.5 each (Enkei RPF1 17x10 vs 18x9.5). Total, it will cost you $534 more to run 14" rotors initially. Then after it will cost you $164 more per set of tires, and $120 per pair of rotors. I did a brake down of prices, weight, piston sizes, etc on my build thread for various 14" kits, you might want to check it out if you are worried about rational mass and such.

Look in the suspension subforum. We have a sticky. Be aware, that any fulltorqued kit will require you to run s197 wheel offset up front.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk

That's not entirely true as the S197 GT caliper/14" rotor kit fits behind most replica wheels without changes and the S550 caliper/Brembo bracket kit fits behind 18x9.5" Y2K replica wheels with the only caveat being the required longer studs.

2000 Cobra R Brembos will not fit a 18x9.5 22mm offset XXR531. i had to put a spacer on and now it has a little bit of poke. which i hate.

So ill make a bet the s550 setup will only clear a wheel like the Y2K. the Y2K poke a little on the 94-98 front. not on 99+ though.

Funny how i was just watching youtube videos with the 2000 Cobra R before i checked the forums..

I have the XXR 521 18x8.5 +25mm, im only planning on doing the front to start off, too much to spend at once to do front and rear, and i just turned my current fronts last weekend so it gives me a little bit more time..

1200ish from AM for the Brembos Cobra R if i could get a used set for under 600 id buy them right now http://www.americanmuscle.com/brembo-mustang-brake-kit-2000-cobra-r.html

But new at 1200ish for not much more you can get 6 piston..

Ugh too many options.. This is why costco only has like 2 different ketchup's when you have too many options you usually end up not buying anything.

Win is right, it won't fit without a spacer

I will, however, take you up on that bottle....

Yes true on the s197 GT kit... But any rims that fit flush as it is, will poke with the 3/4" spacer needed for the gt500 or s550 kit... amirite?

im interested to know what setup you used to fit the 4 pistons in the rear, i too dont like their small single piston caliper that they offer for our cars, and want to have at least 4 pistons in the rear. i prefer to go 14 in rotors but i can live with 13 hahah

I have a narrowed rear and 9" ends. so unless your planning on a serious rear end build I would look at the bear set up that ttocs recommended

This was taken about last year. Driven maybe 200 more miles since.
