Sold my 2012 KX250F after another injury and decided I’m too old for that crap and it’s time to build a new toy. My last build was a 74 Z28, but was totaled in 2012 in Jacksonville NC. I picked up this Bright Blue 94 GT for 3k.

The Good: The engine was running well, interior had been swapped with a 99 midnight black interior and is in really good shape. The car was repainted DIY by the privies owner as an experiment and looked decent, but hadn’t been cut and polished yet. No accidents, no bad dents so a very nice straight body and good interior car to start with. The car came with full gt40p top end, modest trick flow cam, CAI, adjustable fuel pressure reg, adjustable clutch quadrant, Dakota digital fan controller, eibach springs and sway bars and staggered cobra r replica rims it also has Ford racing shorties, down pipe, and BBK OR xpipe, flowmaster original 40s. Nice goodies I was glad I wouldn’t have to drop coin on down the road. Only 102k miles on the clock.

The bad: The chassis was shot, all the rubber bushings had ALL the slop you could imagine. Straight up death wobble, and the loosest steering you could ever drive. Second gear grinds as there is a bad slider and I would assume no synchro left. Slight vibrations at 80 mph due to worn bearings in the t5 and worn out slip yoke and bushing. Shocks and struts and quadshocks had nothing left. The rear bumper had yet to be painted to match the rest of the new paint as the previous owner was waiting to find a cobra bumper in the JY.

Cleaned up detailed and shampooed the interior to get rid of the musty old car smell. After detailing it really came out looking clean I am very happy with the interior of the car.

My plans for the car are to complete rebuild the chassis and run this tired gt40p set up into the ground before I pull it to start my rebuild. First on the list was to tighten up the steering and smooth out the ride with new shocks. I threw on New KYB shocks and struts, and a refurbished rack and pinion with new tie rod ends. This really made the car drivable on the street.

I ordered a new gauge cluster lens since mine was super cloudy and disgusting and decided to put the white gauge overlays on while I was at it. Overall it’s night and day better, only annoying part is it’s not 100% since you can see the white from the tach and the speedo peeking through where the turn signals illuminate. Oh well it was cheap. My dog Tug inspecting my work for quality control.

Grabbed a junk yard GT rear bumper in much better shape than mine and didn’t need as much prep, got my paint matched at Napa and sprayed the rear bumper cover. Going to let it cure for a few days and put it on the car.

Today I started cutting and polishing the car so it looks good with the new rear bumper cover. I will throw on the new cover tomorrow when I wrap up the body.

Found a killer deal on Craigslist. Picked up a complete edelbrock performer 5.0 top end off a 93 Fox Body.

Still have wobble and slop in the chassis from bad ball joints, and control arm bushings. Put on moog front control arms, with serviceable ball joints, threw new wheel bearings in while it’s all off.

With the front all tightened up and nice it’s time to tackle the rear end. New upr control arms with stiff poly bushings, swapped out the outer axel bearings and diff fluid while I was under there.

With all the slop removed from the rear end the carrier bearing started screaming. Parking the car until I can find a shop that can rebuild the diff. I don’t have a bearing press in my small garage to do it myself.

Picked the car up from the shop. Got the trac lock rebuilt, new bearings and new 3.73s. Car really accelerates down low now and first gear is so short it’s almost unusable, can’t shift without grinding second no matter what. It also feel like the car just runs out of breath now. Accelerates quickly up to about 4500 rpm but the just dies off feels like a dog in 3/4 gear. Not a big deal as this engine is coming out for a 331 stroker once it finally gives out.

Picked the edelbrock heads back up from the machine shop. All freshened up, springs good to .600 lift.

Slapped on the power stop break kit all the way around with the carbon pads and drilled/slotted rotors. Put on new rubber for the street as well Nitto NT555 car grips really well now compared to the aging micky t’s that where on it. Think I might add some small spacers to get the stance a bit wider.

It’s getting really hot in Phoenix now, not looking to do anymore work until the fall.

I have been busy, just bought a new house with a 3rd stall garage for more room to work. I have the garage floor Armor Koted before I moved in and man did it turn out great. Mustang looks real nice in the extra spot.

Well I drove down to golf galaxy today, it was around 110 degrees in phx. The plug on the fan decided to melt through and my fans shut off on the highway when I was over 15 miles away. Car was boiling when I got it home, cracked the plastic overflow tank. Guess its time to rebuild. Engine still starts was able to pull it in the garage once it stopped boiling and cooled down.
