So I have a question, so I bought a 95’ mustang GT with a 5.0 engine. It started when I bought it and drove it around. Once I left the place from the previous owner, started back firing and did not want to rev past 1200rpm. Towed it back home, here are the steps that I took. I cleaned the MAF sensor, and after I changed the ignition coil. It worked and I drove it around the block. Later on the car did not start and went back to square one. Next step was I changed the spark plug wires and it started working again, later on the day back to square one. So I can’t figure out what my problem could be. I’m hearing that I should change the MAF sensor or I could have a vacuum leak.

I need the exports from this forum to help my problem.

Thanks it would mean a lot.

Is it a Ford MAF or some aftermarket doohickey?

Fuel / Air / Spark. Need all three things working for it to start and run. You'd have to check those things cylinder by cylinder for each plug sparking, each injector pulsing, and of course the MAF for the air part of it. For instance you can remove a plug/wire from a cylinder, ground the strap up against the strut or anything conductive and start cranking. Have a friend watch for the arc.

If you suspect the MAF, simply unplug the MAF and then go drive the car. If the car operates infinitely better then youll know 100percent the MAF was the culprit.

Your situation sounds like a faulty component that when cold functions fine but after a little bit of run time and heating up faults out. Stock distributor, the tfi module, bad gaskets, wiring harness, fuel pump, the list can go on.

Keep in mind the age of our cars and the wiring harness. Broken wires and corrosion connections can cause all sorts of weird issues. Like ttocs has mentioned numerous times in other threads, one by one remove all the ground connections, clean both contacting surfaces and remount. You save yourself alot of frustration in the long run.
