Can I run the car up to speed with the drive shaft off?

Same here. The lower the car the easier it is for it to rub. Nothing a grinder can't fix.

There were no issues with my aluminum DS install. Just bolted into place.

There was a score on the slip yoke big enough to catch my finger nail in one spot, but other than that the yoke seemed fine. There is a very small amount of play between the yoke and the bushing, which from my understanding is normal. I would like to replace the bushing as well to be safe, but it looks like too big a job for right now.
