ok, i have not purchased a car yet so i was wondering before i do; which would be the most cost effective car to buy (4.6 or 5.0) based on my goal of very close to 300rwhp. i have looked around and have found people saying that the 5.0 is cheaper to mod but i was wondering to what extent of mods were they talking about? like is it cheaper if you have very high horsepower goals or is it cheaper all around? i just want to make sure i make a smart decision when buying a car base on future plans for it. thanks in advance everyone :)

You can hit 300 rwhp N/A with the 4.6L powerplant but,it will cost you more money
to get there than a 5.0L.
You will need port and polished PI cylinder heads, every bolton possible, nothing
less than stage 2 cams,Longtubes will be a must, and a good dyno tune.
Both the 5.0L and 4.6L have a good aftermarket.
Having had both in my experience the 4.6L is more reliable and dependable plus
it gets good MPG too.
If I did it all over again I would have got a 99+ 4.6L and been happy with it.
Buy 99+ GT you will love it and have a newer car too.

My 96 GT was a lemon sad but true and had alot of problems with it so I fixed
it and sold it because it is not worth investing money into a car that will do
nothing but dollar you too death.
I decided to get a Subaru STI because I wanted a car that got better MPG
and was alot more dependable and reliable but, still has power.

Yeah thats pretty impressive. I don't like that style of a car but I have to admit having 716 horsepower would be freaking cool. Thanks for not going ricer on it also. We have enough of that.

I think thats probably a little out of this price range. If hes debating on weather or not to go all the way back to a 5.0. I'm not calling you poor dude just putting out an educated guess.

i would get whatever car u can find in a better deal. if u know how to wrench the 5.0 is a better advantage cause an H/C/I will get u close to 300rwhp. while the 4.6 with its SOHC is a little harder to wrench on. if ur going to pay someone to do the work, either one is fine. u have to do H/C/I on both.

if you cant go :khobra:
then go 5.0.
the parts for them are really cheap
HOWEVER!!!
the sn-95 5.0 parts are sometimes kinda hard to come by.

Penny you cant say money was an issue in you choosing your STI, you spent $35,000 on the kit not to mention the dyno tune time that would be required to get it running properly, I would guess you have close to $70,000 in that car. For that Price you could have owned a way nicer cobra, or new gt500 and modded either one and still had money to spare.
