ok, i have not purchased a car yet so i was wondering before i do; which would be the most cost effective car to buy (4.6 or 5.0) based on my goal of very close to 300rwhp. i have looked around and have found people saying that the 5.0 is cheaper to mod but i was wondering to what extent of mods were they talking about? like is it cheaper if you have very high horsepower goals or is it cheaper all around? i just want to make sure i make a smart decision when buying a car base on future plans for it. thanks in advance everyone :)
(ive posted this in the 4.6 section, to see the different responses for people who frequent that section, as well)

Well if you get a 4.6 get a new edge (99 and up) or find a SN95 with the PI Swap. That will save you money and time..

300 rwhp is possible with the 4.6L powerplant N/A but, it will be more expensive
to mod than the 5.0L.
You will need port and polished PI cylinder heads, every bolton possible, nothing
less than stage 2 cams,Longtubes will be a must, and a good dyno tune.
Having had both cars in my experience the 4.6L is more reliable and dependable
plus gets better MPG.
The aftermarket is huge for both the 5.0L and 4.6L.
If I did it all over again I would have just got a 99+ 4.6L and been happy.

5.0 FTW. 5.0 are just cheaper and IMO easier to work on but thats not saying alot because they are both fairly simple. I grew up building pushrod motors so its natural for me to like them better. I also think its easier and cheaper to get 300 horses with them. the 99+ cars though wouldn't be too hard but more expensive. my budy has edelbrock intake,gt40p heads and a comp cam and he's pushing 300 horses to the wheels with a tune.

5.0

I took my upper and lower intake off and took my valve covers off and painted them, adjusted the rocker arms. All in one day. Try doing that with a 4.6.

Oh and that was my first time doing that.

Nope. Easiest way is to buy an 03/04 Mach 1... just a very few basic mods, a tune & you are at or over 300RWHP. hehe... I know one college student selling his for 14k last time I looked...he is hurting most are 18k to 22k though, neat cars.

1995 Mustang GT - $5000

-H/C/I - $2300
-Full exhaust - $900
-3.73's - $400

= ~9,000 for 300hp

Mach 1 = $15,000

Intake/Tune/Exhaust/Gears - $1200

= ~17,000 for 300hp

I think I found the answer.

dont get me wrong any mustang will be cool but u cant compare a 95 gt to a 03/04 mach 1. with the mods u mentioned on the mach 1 it will make around 330 rwhp ,run low 12s, 20+mpg, and a WAY better comfortable car, better daily driver, smog legal, and has more potential overall. thats why it costs more money.

I agree, also Mach 1 are a limited edition so the car will keep a good value, and it's not easy to find a 94-95 GT in good shape whit low millage.

I think it's funny that every one thinks a new car is always a more comfortable car. My car makes arond 300hp with my new manifold and throttle body and I get about 18-20mpg on the freeway. My car is very comfortable, it has upgraded shocks/springs, but its very stiff, but good on the streets. My car is smog legal even with non emissions heads lol. Like I said, you will have about $8,000 left over for spare parts, whatever. Don't rule a car out because it has 90k miles. My car runs PERFECT for being at 101k miles.

well here in california almost anything is illegal, so the mach 1 wins that battle hands down. comfortable depends on the driver but to most people a mach 1 willl be way more comfortable than a 95 gt. i ridden in one and the seats are incredible, since theyre newer thyre less squeaks and rattles and a more options.and theyre engines respond to simple modifications, starting at 275 rwhp helps too. im not dissing ur car man, i have a fox , and theyre not as comfortable as any sn95. im just stating that u cant compare a 95 gt to a mach 1, and why the mach1 costs so much money.

I would rather buy a 95 GT for 5000 and put 12000 of mods into and run low 10's or lower. but then again it still probably wouldn't be comfortable and get 20 mpg.

Hello,

I'm surprised by the price of a 95 GT in U.S., is it really possible to buy one for $5000.00 ?

In Canada it's almost $10,000.00 U.S. for a clean one whit low millage.

For a Mach 1 it's around $23,000.00 U.S.

My car is completely smog legal with a H/C/I and full boltons. You just gotta buy the right parts :dancing6:

Midnight dont you live in california too?... Machs are badass but if you like the seats so much you can just buy them also. And as for squeeks and what not well if its suspension its just a reason to upgrade. Yeah you wont get the mach label and all that but if your just wanting something fast and not just for what people will think I would go with a 5.0. 8k less is a lot of money hell if I had 8k to spend on mods right now I would be running quite a bit more then 300whp. All about preference.

My 95gt cost me 5k. It came with a folder with every tire change, oil change, any maintenance receipts done to the car. In the folder was the original window new car sticker, even the plastic wrapper for the keys was there. Car has about 70k on it and is my wifes DD. With all this documentation if i put it in storage for 30 yrs you would see it on Barret Jackson LOL.
