So recently I had the somewhat common occurrence on older SN95's, the car cranks slowly then loses all power, as if someone disconnected the battery. For me, it shut off when I turned the headlights on. Checked the battery terminals following that thought and the bolt holding the positive to fuse box wire to the terminal was a little bit loose. I also found the engine block to frame ground strap was burnt at the exhaust manifold and corroded at the frame end. I replaced it with a 4 gauge battery cable and the car is running flawlessly once again.
Anyway, I noticed the power wire to the starter had some pretty good corrosion setting in by the ends. It is just something you tend to not notice until it is an issue. I want to replace it, but I am hesitant before I do it. I noticed the starter power is encased in a wiring loom running from the battery to the starter. I didn't look in depth, but the loom doesn't look to have an opening on the side to slide the old one out. On top of this, there are other wires in the loom as well, so I don't want to yank the old one out. I could just run another power wire around the current one, but I prefer to do it the right way. Anybody have any experience on this?
