Hello!

Just got back from Dyno-Comp in Scottsdale, AZ. My PI swapped and cammed 98 GT went for 251 RWHP @5500 RPM / 273 RWTQ @3750 on a Dyno Dynamics dyno. The guy said on older mustangs a drivetrain loss of 30% was commonly seen. According to that, that puts the mustang at ~ 325 HP / 355 TQ at the crank.

Just wanted to share!

I know... haha I expected them to say the drivetrain losses are around 10%. But on the other hand I've read Dyno Dynamics dynos can read low from time to time!

This is also in 105 degree Phoenix weather!

Is it an auto? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a ported P.I swap for my 96.

PikesPeak: It's worth it, but it was a total pain. Finding all the parts and putting it together took about 4-5 solid days worth of work. I did learn a whole lot though! In hindsight, I would have removed the engine from the car and possibly rebuilt the block (forged/stroked), but I am still happy with the way it came out!

good to know man. I feel like the PI is the only thing this 4.6 is missing to be a decent performer. I have a t45 as well.

Be sure to post your dyno results into the dyno section! Sounds to me like a job well done! Congratulations

With aftermarket cams only 250ish? Don't mean to sound rude, I just always thought they made closer to 300 wheel with PI intake, heads, and aftermarket cams.

I think their dyno must read low... My short block was in great shape and everything down to injectors and hoses were replaced during the swap (and all the carbon was cleaned off the pistons and other parts). The car feels like it has more than 250 RWHP; maybe that's why they give a 30% loss factor when calculating the crank HP?

I read the mods as PI heads and PI cams. I agree, if you have aftermarket cams, you should be making some more power.

So did I. But read post #3, the OP states that he has comp cams. Which, if that is the case, then the car is underpowered or the dyno is reading really low. Which the latter is possible.

Yeah I think the dyno must read low. I have some friends that gone to dyno comp, I'll ask them their experience.

Thats pretty good with stock exhaust and no bolt on upgrades.

Mid pipe would give you a good 10-15 hp.

Cams with stock exhaust logs is killing it. Should get up there with long tubes

The cams I have are comps "stage 2," apparently they lose a bit of power in the low range when they're the only mod done.
1997GT4.6 please let me know what the peiple you know say about dyno comp! The place seems top notch, I know dyno numbers don't mean much when it comes to speed but still would be nice to know if others think their dynos are low balling!

I'll have to take her to the strip once I get a chance!
