last oil change -- the tech reported he thought there was a coolant leak around the oil filter -- tried the pellets, no success -- good friend suggested i use one of those oil filter relocation kits -- thought that would solve the problem -- anybody had any experience with those kits ? summit must have a dozen from $ 60 - $ 400 -- how does one choose ?? many thanks

are you looking for one that is separated from the block

This type with a oil cooler built into the housing side of block

my impression was one that was separated from the block -- move the oil filter to a more convenient place and eliminate the water leak in the process -- that the leak was coming from where the oil filter attaches -- bought the car 6 months ago -- it had been sitting for a while before that -- could the leak be thru the gasket between the oil cooler and the block ?? if i drive the car and then park it -- come back 3 hours later -- no coolant on the floor -- i thought the pellets had worked -- start it and back out -- now there's 1/4 cup of coolant on the floor -- but no trail of coolant as i backed out of the garage -- it's like it spits the coolant out when you start the car and then stops --

There is a specific gasket for the 4V oil cooler.
The gasket probably just needs to be replaced.

Otherwise, I would just go with a GT manifold and forget the cooler altogether.

many thanks -- i am learning about this as i go -- i have decided to try and rebuild the oil cooler -- new gasket and O rings -- when i take it off, i can look it over -- try and see where the leak was coming from if it is from the cooler body -- if it still leaks after the rebuild -- i'll go looking for a new oil cooler body .....

Just don't get any crap in the weep hole while doing the rebuild. Good luck!

It's one of those pencil thin gaskets that just deteriorates over time like any other. It being so thin doesn't help with the longevity aspect of it.

I wonder if this guy has figured out he trashed his radiator and heater core with those pellets, stop leak is meant for limping to a shop from the side of the road. It's not a fix.

SUCCESS !!! got the sucker off the block -- made easier when i realized that not all 2001 cobras have oil coolers -- some just have adapter plates -- getting to the 4 screws that attach the adapter to the block was easier when i figured that out and that some of the utube videos i was using didn't apply to my situation -- did i mention that i am a newbie ... --re-built the oil cooler and so far so good ...... although i only finished it all up this morning -- once i saw that the rod that the oil filter spins on screws out and that allows one to separate the cooler assy from the adapter plate -- and access the 4 screws -- things fell into place --

I think I’m in a similar situation rn, except I don’t think mine are the gaskets. Instead, it’s a hairline crack in the housing itself. The basis for this belief is that there’s no trail leading to the leak, it just drips right at that spot. I’m cooked.IMG_2174.PNG
