What do you guys think of a cooler thermostat? Would the motor run more efficient since its cooler? Im a little sketchy on this topic because no one really talks about? anybody had any experience with this?

I've asked about that and heard that it causes issues of the car warming up and going into closed loop.

The only reliable way to keep the temp down is a better radiator.

I run a 180 in my car, keeps it cool without being too cold.

thats only with the 160, u wont pass emmission either. the 180 one should be perfect, dont expect any gains.

your car should run at 205+. that way all the gas molecules are burned and so that no carbon build up becomes prevalent.

the stock thermo's in our car open at 193 degrees. supposedly, our cars run more efficiently at this temp.

according to a few things i have read, a cooler thermo will not give you any gain. nobody is totally certain though. some people say it will and some say it won't.

if you just swap a 180 tstat in it won't do anything, you must also adjust the fans to come on earlier to gain any cooling effects. 180 is the coolest i would go.

I remember reading a Nascar test on engine temps. They said running higher temps made the engine perform better, such as

It just makes sense, I wouldn't mess w. engine temp

i think the 4.6 produces more power when warm whereas the 5.0 likes the cold more.

dont quote me or anything on that though

your sorta correct, the tolerances in the 4.6 are super tight so until the engine gets to proper operating temps you can do some bearing damage etc...Keeping the modular in the correct heat range is beneficial to hp...running a 180 tstat won't hurt especially if you are in the south.

i think drop top has a good point
it really depends on where you live....
no need to run a 180 in the north...
i guess
