First round of eliminations tonight . . . made it through first gear, went for second . . . and BANG . . .

I'll figure out what broke tomorrow. If I'm lucky (and I rarely am) it'll be sheared felxplate bolts.

I was lucky . . . sheared the flexplate

The only 5 speed I would possibly consider would be a Lenco, but it won't be a 5 speed. Remember, I went to a C4 because I shattered a TKO. Besides, 5 speeds are way too inconsistent for bracket racing.

It will probably be either a better C4 than what I had, or a powerglide. I'm leaning towards a glide.

Turns out I got lucky . . . the flexplate sheared. Never seen that one before. Check out the pic, you can see where it sheared:

Cool, at least that's an easy fix.

Yeah . . it is. But, I'm still worried about why it sheared. This wasn't some pos stock flexplate. It was a $300 SFI rated Reactor flexplate . . . supposed to be the best money can buy.

Hmmm, that is a bit odd.

Any strange harmonics or anything that you can feel with the motor? I imagine the whole thing is internally balanced, yes?

Maybe you'll discover more when you tear everything apart.

Sounds to me like you've got some drivetrain resistance of some sort that was counteracting the rotational force of the motor and flexplate, that, coupled with the vibration from the engine might have been what caused a shear. That's the only reasoning i can think of.

You ought to call them up their product and let them know. They might be interested in the failure and you might just get another for free.

I was surprised you did not get a powerglide to begin with. Why shift 2 times when you can shift once, and they make those things bulletproof.

I know why you sheered off the flexplate, to much torque. But that is never the problem, you could never have to much torque.

My wife once said that too much torque might be the reason I was losing traction . . . . I glared at her and said: "I just need BALLAST. How about you get in the trunk?"

Didn't go over to well.
