Cupholder under radio?

So I was browsing the web looking for what a good version of the tangerine looks like and ended up seeing this contraption under the radio. I have never seen this before. Has anyone else? I wonder if it works?

It should slide in and lock in place but I don't think you will be able to hit all your gears if its a stick and you have a drink in it.

The more I'm looking at it the more I think it wouldn't work even with an auto since that tray it set underneath and behind the radio a bit. Seems like the cup would be hitting the radio.
