2003 GT with about 115,000 miles

Do not know all of the history, I do know before I got the car in June of 2024 it had sat in a garage for about 2 years. Only about 200 miles was put on it during that time.

Need some help with diag on this one (forgive me if some of my terminology is off on this).

I was driving down the road last week, and all of a sudden my engine starting sputtering and miss firing. Not sure what was going on, I pulled to the side of the road and cut the engine off.

Now she wont start. The starter just keeps cranking and the engine acts like it wants to turn over, but nothing happens. A couple times I was able to get it to start for about half a second and then it dies right away.

I no longer hear the priming of the fuel pump when I set the key to on.

I checked the power plug at the fuel pump and it has voltage to the pins when unplugged. But again the pump doesn't turn on when plugged back in.

This led me to believe the pump is gone, but before I go the the process of dropping the take and putting in a new one, anyone got any suggestion?

I came across something about the anti theft system, and I do notice now that the theft light is flashing fast when I open the drivers door. I am currently trying the "leave the key in the on position for 10 min" to see if that works. I will also try the other key.

Any other thoughts on what I should do before I start ordering parts and pulling the tank?

Thanks

Doesn't seem very likely that the anti theft would suddenly malfunction. Even if it did, it would go against the fact that there's voltage to the fuel pump after this problem occurred. How many total miles on the clock?

Could just be that it's the fuel pump's time to quit. If over 100k miles now, just replace the pump anyway.

after it cooled down did it start? also how much gas is in the car. sometimes, when the fuel pump starts to fail, when the fuel is low, it exposes the pump and the pump overheats from not being cooled by the gas. after the car sits for about 20 minutes it will start and run again until it either overheats or you put more fuel in the car to cool the pump. ask me how i know......

Didn't notice the last couple replies.

I'm not sure that a failed fuel pressure sensor would cause the fuel pump not to prime would it?

No it has not started since I got it home. Tried a few times. There is about a half a tank now that we added another 2 gallons just to be sure there wasn't a stuck fuel gauge.

I have a new fuel pump assembly on order. I guess we will drop that tank and replace that and hope for the best.
