I dislike the oem cover. its stamped steel, and you bend it when you use it as a jacking point. I bought the GT500 style finned cover. But there are others that have the support bolts in them. There is a good gasket they sell for the 8.8, or just goop one on there.....

So, if I go the Permatex or RTV route instead off an actual gasket, What are the steps?

Just like they said scrape and clean. I dont use the gasket. Have done it a few times and have not had an issue just using the RTV.

Clean it good, make sure to get all the old material/rtv off. Lay a 1/4” or so bead all the way around the cover and let it sit for about 15 minutes so it kind of scabs over but is still mushy. Then I like to stick it on the housing and just finger the bolts down. Let it sit another half hour or so and tighten the bolts completely.

Or just read the directions on the tube lol
