I've been looking all over the Internet for distributor placement and have seen several where number 1 is in the 12:00-1:00 position but on my car the number 1 is in the 11:00 position in not sure if this is normal? Would this be advanced or retarded the timing. I put a timing light on it when I first bought the car and I'm almost positive it was at 11* it was hard to tell and I didn't have any chalk or white out to put in the numbers. If you've seen any of my other post I've been having problems with the car, I'm just trying to get all the bugs worked out before I drive 3 hours to get it dyno tuned and they not being able to do anything. So can you not see the timing marks on the balancer w/ the timing light? I would bump the starter until you can see the marks from under the car then mark where you want to be. If the car runs your probably not too far off. If you dont have a timing light stop and go get one. Worse case scenario you need to restab it.

It's fine the way you have it. As long as it's on-time with a light.

Your fine as long as the rotor is pointing toward #1 on the cap on the compression stroke and you have enough adjustment on the distrib to advance/retard to get the timing where you need/ want it. Mine sits at the 11 o-clock also
