There’s a bit of back story here so I’ll try to be concise! I originally purchased my 2001 Roush Stage 3 new. It’s been through a lot since then.

For example:

I eventually broke a ring-land on the #4 cylinder (not during the burnout above btw). So I rebuild the iron block 0.020 over with forged pistons and rods. Moved the battery to the trunk and put a large cooler reservoir in its place.

I did manage to run 11.97 at 118 mph a couple of weeks later at Darlington with a hot tune and iced intercooler. It was making 440 hp to the wheels on that tune.
Then the very next weekend at Rockingham - I broke the input shaft on the 1-2 shift. So what did I decide to do? I sold the original Roush MP90 supercharger with the plan of buying a bigger Kenne Bell!

Well - I decided before that to rebuild the bottom end for BIG power - I ended up deciding to ditch iron block and found a Teksid block in good condition - sent it to VT and had it Darton wet sleeved, forged 8 bolt crank, 1500 hp rods and custom dished pistons for low static compression. About 8:1 maybe less if I remember right. VT’s stage 3 blower cams and ported PI heads. That was in 2007.

Then it just sat. Did not even take the long block out of the shipping container until September 2019!

Pieced it all back together - had to scrounge some parts I didn’t have. Still no supercharger at this point so I found a junkyard PI intake and ordered a stock plenum from eBay.

It was pretty tough remembering how it all went back together but ultimately I got it ready to go back in the car.

...My fiasco has been ongoing since 2006 and off the road since 2009
I’m in good company then!
another drop the car on the engine type of guy!!
Ha! The first time I pulled it out the top - did not go well. Maybe if I would have dropped the tranny first. So 2nd and 3rd times —out through the bottom, K-member, motor, tranny and all...

That was from a while ago.. can you hear the Eaton screaming?

Soon - I keep getting side tracked. Currently I am considering adding a pair of Trick Flow Race 195s and cams from Modular Head Shop first. Oh and I need a new set of long tube headers. I sold the last ones.

A pair of big turbos would be fun too!

That’s exactly the way we did it and how the coyote will be installed.

Back story continued:

So with the motor in and all buttoned up, it started right up. Within seconds coolant was dripping out of the firewall drain and all over the passenger floor.

So out comes the dash to replace the leaking heater core! And the sad part is... I had just had it out to replace the a/c evaporator and almost, I mean seriously considered replacing the heater core then. But I thought it looks brand new.... I’ll save that $50 and put it back in ....

I’m pretty good and pulling the dash out now. o_O

Oh, and the fun part about the a/c evaporator was I couldn’t figure out how to separate the halves of the HVAC housing so I just use my cast cutter and made a door on the top!

Next headache was my $70 deal on the junk yard intake. Yeah. That was a waste of money. It was warped and leaked so off it came waiting for the FRPP intake.

So this is pretty much where I am now. In the video above you can see the rough idle of the cams - I swapped in an SVE Plenum elbow in place of the stock pony. I already had the Roush 75mm throttle body and cold air intake.

Shortly after this video I did a compression test and leak down test on all cylinders.

Turns out the leak down shows compression escaping into the coolant - I could hear bubbling in the radiator on cylinders 5 and 6. So best case scenario I have a bad head gasket seal around 5 and 6.

I ordered new gaskets this morning so I guess I’ll be pulling the heads next chance I get. Since it’s currently my daily driver I may have to wait for a long weekend. Otherwise I’ll need to get my 96 Cherokee back on the road...

Man, what a cool build! Sucks to hear about the head gasket though. You’ve got some money tied up in that engine, with the wet sleeves and all. Either way, I’m looking forward to progress.

Hey Doggiedoc! I remember you & your Roush Rebuild from fnsweet days! Great to hear about your adventures again! I always remembered you pulling the engine out the bottom! Glad to see you still have the Roush (amazing) and getting her back on the road! Looking good! The Elder Wind still blowin' hot air!

Cams sound good man. Sucks about the gaskets though. It's been years since I've seen anyone run a wet sleeved teksid. I always wanted to but settled on a boss block instead.

And for what it's worth. I've got access to a lift and I still drop the engine out the bottom and install it the same way.[emoji57]
